Yes, yes as I can see that one Mother raising her hands in the spirit on the corner seat of the Mother’s board while she kept an eye out for any short skirted young ladies who may have needed a lap scarf and any young kiddos who might need a piece o’ candy, a nickel, dime or quarter! Those were the days when nobody checked their watches. You knew on Saturday night momma or Big Momma was gonna get you right (in dress and attitude) before you were given the speech before the first service knowing you’d be in “Chuch” ALL DAY and you’d better not complain, ask when you’d be leaving or play too rough in your good church clothes or mess up them tight paper sack curls beforehand if you knew what was good for you! Lawd, those were the days! My aunt used to say “Baby, it’s alright to want to fix yourself up, but when the eyelashes turn the corner before they do, it’s too much! 😆

I remember hearing and listening to this song when either living with or visiting with my mother's parents pastor Henry Pettus Effinger and Sister Minnie Elizabeth Effinger, mother and brother in my grandparents Pastor Henry's and Minnie's house. I heard it again being played on the radio in my Great Eva's car after we funeralized my grandaddy Pastor Henry Pettus Effinger and we were on our way to the Cedar Oak Memorial Park. My grandfather's and my brother's grandfather pastored The Evening Light Church of God located right nexdoor to The Old Hightown Church of God in The neighborhood Hightown in Northport, Alabama.

The lead singer has such an old soul at such a young age. She looks about 16 years old here but sounds like a grown woman.
@TheTLadyАй бұрын
Yes, she did! We wore this song out at my Aunt Jean’s back in the day up on the hill about a stone’s throw from the little ok AME Church my grandfather helped build! It was such a grown, old soul voice singing something so simple a child could understand it and you felt something in your spirit!
