Passion between Rhys Meyes and Dormer is just so real. First season is my favourite one! Dormer is simply fantastic.

I've watched this series 8 times! LOL! People can complain that JRM doesn't look like Henry VIII, but back then when he was younger Henry was the "handsomest prince in Christendom" but we wouldn't call him that by his portraits because "beauty" has changed over time. So they needed someone who WE would think was good looking

This is a great series but they get a lot wrong. Henry DID have a sister named Margaret, but she was married to the King of Scotland. The Princess Margaret in the Tudors was actually Henry's younger sister Mary Rose. I guess they did it to keep her from getting mixed up with Henry's daughter Mary, but it's one of those things that make me crazy as someone who reads about the Tudors all the time.
@xxwhispersxx28562 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why they dropped Mary, because Mary Tudor was going to be a large character, they didn't want her to get mixed up. Honestly I think they could have had both Mary and Margaret in season 1, killed off Margaret and sent Mary off to France, before Princess Mary was introduced as an adult.

i agree with you 100%. when it comes to the question of katherine's fertility she was getting "old" by the olden days standard. she was heading into her 40's and even by today's standard its considered hard to concieve and carry at that age. i know that while she was younger Henry truly treated her like a queen.

Also her faith was constantly being tested, watching as her Catholic faith is all but wiped out in England, living in constant fear for her life, she was forced to submit to her father or die, being forced to tend to Elizabeth, lets not forget later in life she never found true love plus was never able to have children. Imagine the mental stress that puts on someone can you say PTSD, no wonder she was so unhappy

Agreed, also he was not always obese either, he was very athletic in his youth, but the ulcer on his leg sidelined him from being active so he gained a lot of weight. This was a great series, even though its been criticized for not being accurate historically, so what I am sure there are some facts in this series.

JRM should play an Irish or Scottish king in another movie or tv series. I'd love to see him play one of the Stuart kings.
@Gaskin200815 жыл бұрын
Didn't one of his sisters marry King of Scots? From what I heard, Princess Margaret, in this series, is a mixture of Princess Mary (Henry's Sister) and Princess Margaret. That did it that way so people wouldn't confuse Mary(Henry's sister) with Mary(Henry's daughter).
@astraltears112 жыл бұрын
There are 2 characters in this movie I think history judged too harshly first is Anne Boleyn maybe she was a bit arrogant, lustful/saductive and manipulative, but her adultery has never been proven, neither has her being a witch. The other is Mary, I think the "Bloody Mary" title has outlived its purpose. Think of all she had to endure. She was denied being with her mother Catharine, and watched as Henry humiliated and abandoned them both. Then she looses her right to succession,

Stephanie O'Neill That's the one thing I hated. I don't understand why they had to merge Margaret and Mary Tudor. They could've just written the two historical figures and cast two actresses.
@xxwhispersxx28562 жыл бұрын
@@anja1627 They combined Mary and Margaret because they didn't want Mary getting confused with Princess Mary. Which I think was pointless because Princess Mary was only a baby in season 1 and the sister was gone by the time adult Princess Mary was introduced.

I read again what you said...of course members of the british court did not speak portuguese or spanish perfectly. That's obvious. But the characters which they make speak foreing languages are characters originally from those countries (which means they speak well their first languages) Like the King of Portugal, Queen Katherine of Aragon & the Spanish ambassador and so on. I cannot speak for the french king because I do not seak that language. those people are supposed to speak spanish.

@lollipopfop you do realize elizabeth killed more scots than mary killed protestants and unlike nowadays were divorce is all willy nilly, back then a king and queen married for life-catherine was around longer than henry himself-she was given to the english to be queen-she was his brothers wife before his but his brother died while still a prince-HENRY decided to marry her after his father died-anne was not a whore but there is a word for those who break up a marriage on purpose

I'm agree with you about the innocense of Anne Boleyn; the cause of her dead was the same than cause Henry's divorce of Katherine: She can't give birth boys. If you observe with attention, you can see that as much Catherine like Anne had a very serious matrix' troubles, these probably caused for Negative Rh.

At first I felt the same but I realised later that it's not important for this show that the cast bears a physical resemblance to the real people but that they can deliver a sense of their character. In this they have succeeded, especially Natalie Dormer who really breathed life into the character of Anne Boleyn. :) let's face it, it's not a terrible thing that a lot of the cast are gorgeous :)
@slothfromthegoonies82018 жыл бұрын
That's a misconception due to the fact that the best surviving portraits of Henry VIII show him when he was older, and morbidly obese. Henry was actually incredibly attractive in his younger days. An Italian diplomat described him as the most handsome man he had ever seen.

@CE750 Surely once Catherine of Aragon died, any of the women he married were also true queens, so there's no reason whatsoever to refer to Jane Seymour or Anne of Cleves as any of those things, and while Catherine Parr remarried after Henrys' death there's no reason to believe she was unfaithful to him during their marriage.

@Rotebuehl1 I don't think you took the time to read and understand lollipopfop's post to before you commented. The post clearly said Bloody Mary, not Catherine. I agree but they did that because they didn't want modern audiences to get Mary (Henry's sister) confused with Mary (Henry's daughter). Understandable, as casual watchers might get frustrated enough to turn off the show, yet condescending to those of us who would get the difference between the two Marys.
@lyook2314 жыл бұрын
yeah 3 things you should know 1. Catherine was forced to marry henry because when her husband died (henry's brother) they needed to keep the ties with Spain. 2. Mary was a pretty good queen she was just very Catholic and killed anyone who was protestant. 3. Henry had to get a dispensation to marry Catherine so yes there was a marriage and he had to get a dispensation to divorce her so obviously a marriage. :) just thought you should know

@moonprincess4195 There was NO WAY Anne was engaged to Percy because engagements were only authorized via the Fathers of the girls. No such arrangement had been made for Anne, hence the commission he made for her to become the King's mistress. Further proof of this is the fact that Percy's wife petitioned King Henry to grant her a divorce after discovering Anne & Percy's secret marriage & the consummation of it!

Mary did sleep with Henry and had two children by him, one of which was a boy. The other incorrect fact in this series is that Henry recognized his bastard son and made him a prince. @lollipopfop Sorry, but you're in error. Since No divorce ever took place Anne & Percy were ALWAYS STILL MARRIED to one another! "Pretending" the marriage never took place does Not dissolve the marriage! Read the actual "History." Henry had no "legal" grounds for divorce from Catherine & therefore Henry & Anne were indeed adulterers because their marriage was not lawful in the eyes of the Church nor God.
