Awesome recap! I hadn't ran across this video until now and I'm the one behind you for most of the first half of the race. Thanks so much for taking the energy to give me the pep talks I needed to stay positive and slow down a bit to make sure I will have enough energy to finish the race under BQ standards! I think your thoughts about maturing as a runner is something I can learn from. I know a lot of times when I'm racing I'm so focused on the run that I don't realize the beauty that surrounds me. From the scenery to the people, to just the ability to be healthy and run. I'm glad that I was able to be reminded that I was able to smile and have a bit of fun still on what still is my PR for a marathon. Thanks so much for putting this together. I'll check out your other posts and podcast soon.

I'm running this exact race in a month. Can't wait! Really enjoyed your video. Chuckled when you talked about how you used to be so serious and not say hi to everyone and that it was all about the goal. I'm still kind of like that but I've gotten friendlier after races lol.

Nice, it's a great fast race. It's funny how your perspective changes over time. Have fun out there, let me know how it goes.

Floris Gierman This year I've just been working on getting my ankles back to 100% after peroneal tendinitis, now that they are nearly there I've been building my mileage up lately doing mostly aerobic runs.I will be looking at another marathon at some point next year hoping to break the sub 3. Your videos will be my go to for my training tips 👌.

Good call to get your body back 100% first and doing mostly aerobic runs. Exciting you'll be looking at another marathon next year. If any questions come up in your training, just let me know. Also, we started a Facebook Group with athletes from around the world helping each other out, you might find this beneficial as well for your training and racing: facebook.com/groups/209003219602686 Cheers!

I'm thinking about running this race and stumbled on this video. Nice review and enjoyed it. 6:50 Like Mike Tyson said about plans, "everyone had a plan until they get punched in the mouth". Same about Gatorade and gels! Doesn't mix well with me either!

Danny Jacobs yes great video I just signed up for the June marathon. Check out kofuzi tunnel marathon video on KZbin also.

Beautiful course and super fast course. I would put a big asterisk before I called the time one runs on this a PR. It is what net negative 2000 feet and no uphill? Worth running for the views and getting a BQ.

Wondering what shoes did you wear? How was it different than road? I heard that gravel slows you down? Good video, short and to the point.

Beautiful landscape! What shoes would be best for this course? Would carbon plated shoes be of any advantage?
@billythekidnax Жыл бұрын
Oh, just read similar questions) Road shoes should be fine I guess.
@FlorisGierman Жыл бұрын
When I ran it, was mostly fire road. So you can use a trail shoe with carbon plate. I'd be cautious wearing road carbon plated shoes

Enjoyed watching the whole video. I can't imagine myself, running with a video recorder and talking at that pace..

Glad you enjoyed it Asif! Good thing that the recordings were pretty short! That's why I did most of the talking before and after the race :)

Hey, love this video. Planning on running this course this year for the first time. What shoes would you recommend for that gravel and any tips and strategies for the course?
@FlorisGierman2 жыл бұрын
I'd wear road shoes, because the trail was pretty hard fire road when we ran it. That being said, I'd suggest asking a few others cause the trail conditions could have changed in recent years.
@Jlei3072 жыл бұрын
same, hoping to Wear Vaporfly's for this one but unsure of trail conditions

Dude! You need to invest in a gimbal holder for your phone. They have really come down in price and would have made this a great, no shake video :-)
@FlorisGierman7 жыл бұрын
Fully agree this video was waaaay too shaky. I honestly wasn't even planning on filming anything during the race, however as I was running and had some energy left, I figured I might as well. I have a Go Pro Karma that's very stable, for example see this video: extramilest.com/blog/running-a-sub-3-hour-marathon-boston-qualifier-or-marathon-pr/ however it's a bit heavy to bring on a full marathon though. I might bring it for one of my upcoming races, like the Long Beach Marathon in October. Cheers!

You mention your HR targets during the race. What is your max HR? Trying to get a sense of your HR % during this
@enyangh7 жыл бұрын
Hi, how would you describe the elevation drop of this course? Do you feel it helps or hurt your performance compared to a flat course? What’s the condition of the trail?
@FlorisGierman7 жыл бұрын
Eric Huang the elevation drop was a few thousand feet over the length of the first 20 miles / 32k. This definitely helped my speed while keeping heart rate relative low 155-158. That being said the trail was soft and rocky in some areas, but fast and good in others. This slowed me down a bit. Overall this is a fast course so a nice new trail marathon experience. You should run it one day if you get a chance!
@enyangh7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Floris! How would you choose this downhill course vs a flat paved Marathon like Chicago, if you want to get a PR or BQ?
@jerrycanterbury26216 жыл бұрын
I have no idea how you're able to talk at that pace. :)

Floris, what was your weekly mileage leading up to this race? I'm doing this race in July
@nathaliec73305 жыл бұрын
which shoes did u use?
@didoma737 жыл бұрын
Floris, i thought your HR range should be 136-146; why were you aiming to keep it at 158?
@FlorisGierman7 жыл бұрын
didoma73 during MAF training the HR zone I️ trained at was 136-146. During a race you can run at a higher HR. For me I️ aim about 15 beats higher during a marathon, to that’s about 158-ish
