I was playing and singing at Gold Street, (now Bix's) from 1970 to 1972. I played for Charles while he made a special appearance there. He turned out to be a good friend. Gary Schneider

Saw him several times, and he was always hilarious, a born comic. Had the privilege of having dinner with him through mutual friends and he was so charming. Was just as interested in others as we were in him. One of a kind.

I read your book on Charles Pierce. It is a must-read for any fan of that genius. Years ago I saw a video of a routine he did on a set and it was entitled something like "Marilyn's Last Phone Call." I would dearly love to see that again if someone can post it on KZbin or provide a lead to a source.

I'm going through all of Charles's old Beta (!) and VHS tapes, and transferring them to digital. Will look for that Marilyn routine you mention, James, and let you know if/when I find it. And I hope this time it won't take me two years to respond! Cheers, --Kirk

Thank you, David Kay. And everyone else who has contacted me thru KZbin or Facebook or email. SAN FRANCISCO FANS: I'll be doing a presentation on Charles, with rare film clips of his performances, at the SF Public Library on Thursday Sept 22 at 6pm. It's free, and Jan Wahl is the moderator. Join the fun, or tell your friends. Or both. xok

what does he say Yma Sumac went into ???
@kirkfrederick93718 жыл бұрын
"That fateful night when Yma Sumac went into her ninth octave." The versatile singer/actress had a remarkable 4- or 5-octave range, so Charles exaggerated her talent for comic effect. People often wondered if Amy Camus had just spelled her name backwards to get a more exotic stage name.

@@donrumgay5200 Thanks for that important little history lesson, Don. I had no idea. I wonder if Charles did? Just so you know, I'm in the process of transferring all the VHS tapes of Charles's nightclub shows to digital, and will be posting them on KZbin soon. CHEERS!
