Greek officers had walked over a Turkish flag in İzmir in 1919. To avenge,a Greek flag was laid down in front of the same building in 1922 but Atatürk refused to step on it saying “The flags are sacred; no one has the right to be disrespectful to them,even if it is your enemy’s”

Im russian, never lived in Turkey, but I like to learn history and I guess what Ataturk is true genius and hero of his own motherland. He saved Turkey from occupants, bring independent, did westernization and rebuild country from ruins. He didn't hated islam, he just wanted to make Turkey more friendly with non-islam people (europeans like first), without radical islamism. I really respect him ❤🇹🇷

Actually Ataturk couldn't save his own motherland, because his and most of ther Turkish officers homelands are the Balkans, Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Thrace, Albania, etc. They managed however to establish a safe country for people who share the same identity as them, while the entire Middle East was colonised or under heavy colonial influence and their lingual/cultural relatives in Central Asia under Russian occupation. Turkey was the only country to remain as a truly independent actor between the British/French/American led West and the Russian led East until after WWII.

I live in Eskisehir, turkish for ''Old City''. My city has been devestated during the Greek occupation. There was so many wreckages that it was no longer a ''city'', therefore took the name Old City. Some claim other stories but there is a big majority of people believing this story. Not all Greeks were bad though... We also came from a village which was visited by Greek army and my grand-grandmother had an encounter with a Greek soldier. According to what my elders told me, when the Greek soldier tackled my ancestor to the ground she was trying to escape to cellar to hide herself. She though she was done for but Greek soldiers did not hurt her in any way. I guess Greek army was low on supplies because the Greek soldiers only asked for some eggs from my ancestor. Because there was a language barrier between them, he tried to explain by saying ''cluck-cluck'' When he took the eggs, he left without causing anymore problems.

The second thing is that all capitals of the Safavid dynasty were in Iran, like Tabriz, Qazvin, and Isfahan. The third one is that Shah Ismael's forefather was called Sheikh Safi who is an Iranian person who had something like a mosque in Ardebil, which is one of the cities of Iran. I use Iranian Civilization in the Safavid period, which is written by Jamshid Norozi.

This war is one of the critical turning points in our glorious history. The Ottoman Empire was in its final days and all its territories were under occupation. The Anatolian Turks had to either submit to these colonial powers or mobilize all their resources to fight for their existence. Indeed, the Turks demonstrated an epic resistance that would set an example for the entire world, showing that they were still standing tall against the colonial powers.

Turkey was never been a colony and when the Parliament in Istanbul was dissolved by English, the new parliament was established in Ankara as its continuation. So the term "independence" shouldn't be used here. It's used for colonized countries being free. Kurds and the other minorities live within the Turkey's borders are considered to be Turks.

Armenians were completly eradicated in every siege and battle in eastern anatolia, the situation was so bad armenians were throwing away they weapons to run away from Turkish army faster.

But in turkey 1923 there was about 100,000. Now while about 1.5 million of those Christians were in the middle east and not in the newly formed Turkey. 2.5 million were in modern day turkeys borders. But only 550,000 Christians made it back to Greece in the population transfer. So if anything it's bigger
