I’m not surprised by Tenby, people seem to think South Wales is quite dreary, but when you find gems like Tenby, and my personal favourite, Mumbles (Swansea) you realise how beautiful South Wales really is! Love the video by the way!

I used to love riding this train to Tenby back in the 80s, when it was hauled by a 125. Such a good service. Train to Tenby walk to kiln park caravan park. Height of early 80s summer adventures when I was 10

We stayed at the foot of the railway embankment in Narberth in the summer of 2018 and I still remember hearing a HST and thinking I was dreaming as it was such a minor route. Probably the final year of HST operation on this service! A lot of the stations seem quite far from the places they serve. Saundersfoot beach is lovely but the station is quite a way inland!

Was amazing to see Lamphey station again. My wife and I stayed in the village in July 2016 and got a train (hailing it like a bus as a request stop 😀) to Tenby and back. It’s a great little station. Thanks for all your videos we, along with my 5 year old, love watching them.

One of those few remaining out of area holiday maker extensions.Cross Country did a Weymouth extension but the most recent now cancelled one was the St Pancreas to Scarborough one run by Midland Mainline and EMT although I don't think that it survived into the EMR era.

Fun fact.... The Pembroke branch was completely missed off the Intercity Express Program contract by the DfT! Come January 2018 there was a mad rush to run a route proving train, arrange the SDO posts and signs plus get the information to Hitachi to add the information to the train.... We also had to pay to have the voice-over lady record the station names as well! Fun, but stressful times!

Highway Code… when walking down a road with no pedestrian pavement/path you should always walk on the side facing the oncoming traffic ie the right! And wear something bright, if possible. I think reasoning being that if the vehicle looks not to have seen you, you can a least jump into the bushes/out the way which is better than just being run over from behind!!
@SionsTrainVideos

Yes true! however it's not shown in the video that we kept changing sides to not be around blind corners and due to it being a warm day and more shade on the left side. I preferred to not turn a corner and have the car in my face 😂

@InkItOut lol yeah a car in your faces wouldn't be a good thing ether so what can you do lol. I used to go to Pembroke dock every time HST was down then go to the town and have chips in chippy but another time we went to the station pub for a pint which is closed down unfortunately

Went there on a mystery trip back in the 80s and had heavy rain, so you were lucky! All sorts of excursions were run then. Just another example of what we have missed with the disaster of privatisation.

Back in 2018 I took a train from Saundersfoot back to Leicester (via Swansea, Bristol Parkway & Birmingham!). It was an excellent journey, surprisingly cheap (booked on a single ticket for about £23) and I'd love to explore that line properly at some point, but I don't seem to have much luck in Wales! 😆

My ex local station! Never actually caught that train, but it's on the to do list. Saundersfoot station is a bit of an odd station, miles away from everything including Saundersfoot itself. About half the stations along that line are request stops

Manorbier station has a lot of rail history that is still visible when you take the time to look, also the beach and castle there are rather special, for historians that castle was the home of Gerald of Wales. Kilgetty and Saundersfoot hold a lot of good memories for me, always amazes me just how far Saundersfoot station is from the town, but worth the effort to visit.

Single "l" in the Welsh version of Penally (Penalun), so its pronounced pen-alley without the usual welsh "ll" sound. Is there still an army rifle range next to the station there?

I am startled to find out you didn't know Tenby was pretty and popular! A crazy and fascinating trip. I live in Swansea and didn't even know GWR still ran west of Carmarthen. A good thing, but it doesn't make the IET seats any more comfortable.

Good to see the walks are resonable. Is there some short cut for crossing the A477 just by the railway? The map suggests you have to walk the long way round. An interesting challenge is to list all the stations that you can only get to London from with more than one change.

Your Manorbier argument is only partly true, Nick, as many Welsh people pronounce it as Man-OR-bee-yah, with the emphasis on the OR-bee bit! There used to be a summer-opening only youth hostel whose nearest station was Saundersfoot, in the days of foam mattresses on metal bunk frames that sank under your bodyweight... I can remember staying there on the first night of the season, many years ago, where not only did the mattress sink rather further than I'd expected, but it proceeded to drop its winter moisture into what was quite a pool beneath it by the morning! I think there are quite a few request stops on both the Pembroke and Fishguard branches, are there not? I never made it into the town, but Pembrokeshire is a stunning part of the country - I hope you were both able to enjoy it some more.
