After 144 hours of Twilight Zone I can now honestly say that we need more shows like the Twilight Zone. If you haven't ever watched show yet and love sci-fi, this is definitely worth a look. I also don't normally stan, but I definitely stan Rod Serling.

This video took a while to upload because of all the re-renders (CBS does not like me using Twilight Zone footage), so I've had to cut some stuff before I could actually get it through. Also yes, I was sick while recording this video so please excuse my incredibly nasally voice, it cannae be helped.

Reminded me of this "Hatred and prejudice will never be eradicated, and witch hunts will never be about witches. To have a scapegoat: that's the key. Humans always fear the alien, the odd. Once the mages had left Novigrad, folk turned their anger against the other races... and, as they have for ages, branded their neighbors their greatest foes." - Geralt of Rivia.

my favorite is the 50's where a guy who loves reading is constantly distracted by people and then there is a atomic holocaust and hje is the only one left and he has all the books but then his glasses break and he can't read anything. as an introverted book worm with glasses (i have to be the most original person ever) i was horrified. i actually took away from the video that i needed to value the humans in my life more or be punished. all the time in the world....

I'm really not into The Witcher, so i was a bit sad with the direction this channel took after all the Lovecraft and Warcraft times from before. Not complaining! I was actually happy that the channel was at least still going, but now... you made an video about The Twilight Zone, my favorite show of all time. And it was a GREAT essay (we should all stan Rod Serling). Thank you so much!!!!

No kidding, I was just reading about Rod Serling. Never been much of a fan of the Twilight Zone, only saw one episode, but I’ve been researching for an article (or maybe a book) the history of the 11th Airborne Division during the Second World War - an outfit that often goes criminally-ignored by historians. Rod Serling served in the 11th in the Pacific theater and they had a VERY interesting wartime experience both training and drilling in the states and fighting in the Philippines. In particular their first combat jump on Tagaytay Ridge in Luzon was one that Serling participated in and if I have my facts straight this experience made it into an episode of The Twilight Zone (or maybe a different project he worked on). Apparently the paratroopers in the leading plane jumped too early and this caused a chain reaction in the following aircraft as plane after plane of paratroopers lemming’d their way out of their planes following the example of the lead plane. This led to a lot of the troopers landing waaay off target and having to hoof it back. In the unit diary for the 11th all it says is that “some paratroopers deployed too early due to sloppy jump discipline and had to find their way to their rally points.” Apparently this experience left a lasting memory on young Serling. I suspect it was nerves, it’s not uncommon for someone on their first real combat jump to suffer from “premature ejection.” Happens to the best of us.

Very interesting story! There weren't any paratrooper episodes in the Twilight Zone that I've seen but given that it was likely a very traumatic experience for him, it might've showed up in "Night Gallery" instead as that series is a lot more focused on horror.

@@ProperBird It was bugging me so I decided to do some more digging it seems it was a television play he wrote that aired in the 50’s titled “24 Men to a Plane” - I figured it was something more notable because some rando decided to just poop that anecdote onto Serling’s wikipedia page out of context and with no further explanation whatsoever and I figured foolishly “oh that’s prolly because it’s something that doesn’t need an explanation and I just don’t know it because when it comes to his work I have the frame of reference of a new-born baby deer.” But yeah, during that goose chase I learned more about what he got up to during the war and yeesh, “very traumatic experience” is right. Poor guy was a veritable lightning Rod for significant emotional events. >.>

One of my favorite things is to just chill and watch The Twilight Zone. I'm glad you've been able to watch and enjoy this series! I am surprised you didn't talk about the movie. It was rather intriguing to me that such a tragedy happened on the set of the Twilight Zone movie. One of the episodes from the original series that was really jarring for me was a story that takes place in New York City, during a massive heatwave. It's not ordinary heatwave either, the Earth is actually drifting closer to the sun. Societal collapse is imminent and at the climax of the story, everything starts to burst into flames. Then it's revealed the protagonist is a woman suffering from a fever and, in fact, it's snowing outside. However, as the doctor leaves, dialogue between him and the other woman implies that the opposite of the dream is what's actually occurring. The Earth is drifting further from the sun and everything is freezing.
@ProperBird

I did mention the movie shortly in the video. I didn't talk about it at length because it was not a Twilight Zone movie, the studio executives just tried to make an extra buck after Serling had already died. The script that inspired the movie at all "Where the Dead Are" was written by Serling long after his Twilight Zone days and dug up after the fact by his widow and subsequently sold off as a "Twilight Zone" movie. The fact that Serling himself never bothered to talk about/show/use the script speaks volumes on how he felt about it.

Hi Jinzee; it really was a hit tv. show back in its time. I have a bit of trivia for you, WW II claimed about 1.1 million lives related to the US. in their various capacities during the four-plus years that the war lasted. In comparison today, COVID-19 has claimed more lives on a monthly basis. COVID-19 is way ahead of WW. II; so far it has claimed more lives; about 20 thousand lives per month this far into the outbreak. In only five months' time, give or take! Be safe Jinzee.

Rod Serling was a BAMF. Was a sapper in the nastiest theatre of WW2. Was a short guy who boxed. Was incredibly literaly & eloquent. Twilight Zone was decades ahead of its time. It existed by a twist of fate & the good will of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, via Westinghouse Desilu. Its modern incarnation is shallow black folks dun need get paid. Very sad.

After so many re-editing and re-uploading you must have felt like being trapped in the Twilight Zone yourself! 144 hours only for part of the research, now that's something. Really like this documentary style, it suits you! This whole video could be on a movie history channel without any edits (don't worry about the lights, you did the best with the things you have). Have to be honest, always heard good things about this series, never watched them before. This video made me want to watch at least the original episodes. So thank you!

Well done once again! Diligently researched and well thought out as always, and delivered in your own inimitable way. The story about how Serling ended up starting the show were fascinating. I'd read some of it before years ago, but your account was detailed yet concise. I too had long ago noticed the recurring themes in some of the various episodes. Yet they were done so well in all aspects (at least for the time and the budgets) that I never minded it! I've seen some of the episodes from the first 2 remake series, and agree that they were much more hit-and-miss than the original series. Some were quite good, but for others the absence of Rod's direct influence could be noticed and felt. Anyway, thanks for a very informative and very entertaining video!
