The Twin Engines: Walt Disney World Railroad 2/26 & 2/27/2024

In 1925, two locomotives rolled off the floor of the Baldwin Factory. Builders Numbers 58444 and 58445 belonged to a pair of 4-6-0 Ten Wheelers built for export to Mexico to operated on the United Railways of Yucatan. They would lead rather unremarkable lives, until they were eventually discovered by a pair of folks from back in the States, Roger Broggie, and Earl Vilmer, who decided to repatriate the locomotives for use at a magical little theme park in Central Florida...
On February 26th and 27th, I made my way to the Magic Kingdom to see the Walt Disney World Railroad's venerable #3, the "Roger E. Broggie", who had recently re-entered regular service, after returning from a major overhaul at the Strasburg Railroad a few months prior. Joining her on the line was her twin sister, the "Walter E. Disney", and both locomotives put on an excellent show around the park. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Walt Disney World Railroad!

Roger has always been my favorite on the railroad, and the new paint scheme makes it even better. The 70’s colors combined with the extra lining and lettering detail is absolute perfection. Circus train no longer!

Roger definitely looks great in its new appearance. So far, he’s the only one with a redesigned logo, as Walter and Lilly retain their original logos. I wonder what they will do with Roy.

Been waiting to see Roger run again. I think Strasburg gave her the best overhaul thus far! New logo on the tender and new text font, and it has been repainted into its old 1970's colors.

Just in time for the twins 100th anniversary in 14 months. Had they sent Roy instead of Roger in 2021 which was the original plan, Roger would not be running for its 100th anniversary, and that would’ve been a disappointment to me.

The Donald and Douglas theme was most definitely a perfect choice to represent these two beauties of the narrow gauge side. Definitely would be even more fitting if ever Disney decided to run them both coupled together

Right, considering that Engines # 1 (Walter E. Disney) and 3 (Roger E. Broggie) have the same basics! So yes, you can really say these are twin Locomotives!

Open the switch and back them up out of Fantasyland. There are videos of the process on KZbin.

Do you know what happened to take them out of service Monday morning? I was waiting out on the Contemporary walkway for like half an hour before giving up.

I love the twin ten-wheelers! What could've made even better is if they still were the same length like their U de Y look. But the colors are beautiful.

I don’t think they ever changed length. What changed were the size of the boilers, as when they were bought by Disney, they were given smaller boilers to better emulate 19th-century machines.
