Lori's explanation was that her brother stayed at her house because she was scared of Charles. But taking his phone and running around the house with it is crazy.

It’s a shame that Tylee had negative feelings about a good father like Charles. She blindly accepted every lie her mother told her which tragically ended in her murder. I can’t even wrap my mind around what was done to Tylee.

I wonder if Tylee actually had bad feeling against Charles. Lori would say whatever she had to say in order to get the desired result. Lying to the police would be nothing to Lori. Charles provided the only stability that Tylee, Colby or Lori, for that matter, had ever known. Tylee was intuitive. Tylee loved her mother but could likely see what a wretched person her mother was.

Lori is afraid that Charles is going to cause trouble, yet Lori takes his phone walks around the kitchen with it and won’t give it back while trying to read messages. Lori starts the confrontation on purpose and the cops don’t see this? Even if they know nothing else they can see that she wasn’t really afraid of Charles. How could it be self-defense? Charles spoiled her and the kids. He didn’t deserve all of this.

They also did a search of his home when there was snow on the ground and took stuff from inside his home. The search of his property (outside) was the 2nd time it was searched.

The death penalty was removed from Lori's sentencing because the prosecution kept missing deadlines providing discovery, not because of her mental health.

UPDATE: Chad Daybell was sentenced to death last week upon the recommendation of the jury that convicted him of first-degree murder and conspiracy charges in the killings of his first wife and two children of his second wife.
