The ominous imagery early in this tale gives fair warning - water seeping in, "dark and frothy" - trees "crowding in overhead like gossiping hags" - the forest "hissed and rustled on either side" - a "tenebrous glow" in the dark... No... this is not a lovely place for a visit... A dark story, beautifully crafted and read.

The writing is beautiful, evocative, soothing to the ear. The writer clearly has the heart of a poet and the gentle voice of the narrator acts as a contrast to the emerging horror in a way that adds to the tension. This is one of the better story telling Channels I have come across. A new favorite. I look forward to more. Thank you ❤️

Gorgeously read, and anyone who has ever been lost in a forest knows exactly how this guy was feeling! And the temptation to plunder and take home... But, finding the thing in the house: that was more a question of theft than of plundering the forest? And the hunter: he had stolen the chrysalis originally in order to use it as bait? Human laws, nature laws...and diamond larvae. Wonderul.

The Twisted Woods is not just an excellent story, but I think it's use of language and metaphor and simile and imagery is as perfect and vivid and effective as any story I have read, and I have read quite a few . I like the story a lot, and found myself led up to the final horrifying ending in the most effective way. While all the details and specifics of the story have the impact of the freshest imagery, the general plot follow a certain class of story plot. Most horror stories tend to fit a pattern, but this is this is not to say they are less effective for this. The ending is prepared carefully with details and hints and by the time I reach the ending, I think I was expected to have a pretty good idea of what it would be; but I had no certainty and remains in suspense his little by little the clues emerged . The pace and tempo of the story getting me there and the dawning realization of where it is going -- this pacing is just another aspect of the story that is perfectly done. I can hardly think of another horror story that is better written in this one. there's a slightly literary tone to the language, an effective vocabulary in use, but but nothing to challenge a modern reader to think the story is too dense or too old fashioned. I can't emphasize too much how how perfect the quality of the writing is . Tony, I discovered your work by chance some months ago. I did not realize that in addition to narrating a number of classics, you also wrote some of your own. found the quality of narration and the choice of stories to be impressive. Then I discovered that you also wrote. the stories by you that I read all seem very good to excellent until I came to this one which seems perfect. Apparently you have quite a large body of work, not just a massive body of posted narrations of classic stories, but if your own writings. at one time I read quite a bit of horror stories and I found myself surprised and embarrassed that I had not heard of you before. it is possible - and I may be talking through my hat here because I'm talking about something I don't know anything about -- that you may not have maximized the marketing potential of your work, possibly being self-published to keep control. If that is the case, I I think you should give some consideration to getting a major publisher to bring out an addition of your work. I am not as naive as I sound because I know it is not as easy it might be to get a publisher to read your works let alone to publish them. I suspect with a body of work you have established, you might well find it a little easier to get their attention. I know I'm talking through my hat on a subject in which I have no Professional Knowledge really if I'm being silly I have to apologize. but I do find it strange that I have not heard of you before recently, which led me to believe that you may not be marketing your work is effective as you might . Please keep writing stories like this one . .

Hi Tony, I've enjoyed many of your readings and I've noticed that you have covered some of E F Benson's ghost stories. You may be aware that Benson's brothers (A C and R H Benson) also wrote ghost stories often with a religious spin. There is a book called 'The Temple of Death' published by Wordsworth Editions which features the best of these. I prefer A C to R H and the title story by A C Benson is probably the best however many of these tales create a genuinely sinister atmosphere. Best wishes Colin

The plot and it's unrolling our excellent but there are a number of other fine stories by you and others with a plot as good, but very few things I have read match the effectiveness of the beautiful language . you mentioned in one of your answers to a comment, that you were thinking of writing other stories in a political vein like this one . if that is all possible please do.
