Yall, if you're reading this comment, something, anything, on the video, please. LET'S HELP THE ALGORITHM OUT. We all know Spilos content is fantastic, and more people need to see this stuff. and he deserves more attention. The guy doesn't just teach overwatch, but he be dropping life lessons in this stuff.

As a day-job person as well, I started taking 5-8 minute breaks inbetween comp matches. That, plus Q times made a significant difference in my focus. Plus during the breaks I'd do "chores" like the dishes or laundry haha. Currently GM1.

I don't even have a job yet and I usually can't queue up right away after a comp game. I usually need some time to chill for a bit after, overwatch takes a lot out of you.

Best advice I’ve been inconsistent with my performance. Auto pilot will actually destroy your gameplay

Thanks again for putting abstract concepts into something that can be applied practically. And also for emphasizing all the right things again. Whatever neural pathway one wants to build, every high quality repetition is worth 100 sloppy ones. On the contrary repeating something with bad execution will only make you good at doing something badly. As I so love anecdotes, here's another one: back when I was doing martial arts, we had a workshop with focus on how to survive knife attacks (pro tip: your best bet is to run away if you can). We we're practicing super slow all the time and then one student asked if we shouldn't do faster sparing to learn how that feels. The simple answer of the trainer was: if you want to die fast, practice fast. Slow conscious execution with high quality will yield better results quicker. With my clients I also practice super slow wherever possible if motor control / movement quality plays any role (and it does most of the time for anything). Not a single bad rep is my credo, rather stop if quality gets low. Of course with Overwatch being a game most of us sometimes just want to have fun with it and so for me it's ok to fool as well. If you're fun / goal is to really improve or rank up though I'd argue to go to the Arcade and play something crazy if you don't have the fuel to implent good habits in your ranked games anymore. What's your take on that? Where do you draw the line between still getting something out of games through observation / experience vs. building bad habits via auto pilot?

I like this. I've also discovered in aim training, an important tool was being able to focus hard on something for like 2 runs, then playing normal and not getting stressed about things. In aim training it was like, let me make sure my grip stays where I want it for these 2 runs. Let me focus my aim pathing to the center (tis better for switching tasks usually), things like that. This seems to be similar

Muscle memory takes a couple of days to set in. If you focus on cover today, you won't notice the change until tomorrow.

I have been finding alot of progress playing two competitive games a day.and leaving gap days every other day I was thinking maybe the game notices i haven't played in a while and puts my up against weaker opponents? Or maybe its the more logical conclusion of i dont burn out as easily

I was a swimmer growing up, and we used to do what my coach called “lactate sets” on Saturdays when we didn’t have meets. We would do 10x100s from the blocks at “race pace” on a 10 minute interval. (Some poor saps had to do 8x200s on 12 minutes.) We weren’t allowed to do any sort of cooldown in between, on the theory that if we trained to race with lactic acid buildup in our muscles, we’d be able to perform better in the more favorable conditions of an actual race. Not sure if the science on that actually holds up, but I do think that it was useful training. Seems like kind of a similar idea to the 2-fight thing.

The thing that makes it so clear that you come from a sports background is that you're constantly diving into analogies without thinking them through, and then you very casually try to find a way to cobble images together to keep the analogy going, even as it's crumbling into nonsense. I'm pretty sure every coach does this.
