Kiya kehnay..... Subhaan-Allah, Ustad Shahid Pervaiz Sahib and Ustad Zakir Hussain Sahib God Almighty bless both of you. Ustad Shahid Parvaiz Sahib is one of the very few Instrumentalists, who have such command of Laya (Taal). The lehra he played when Ustad Zakir Hussain's tabla portion began is Real examination of Laya-kaarii. Ustad Shahid Pervaiz Sahab is blessed with ilm, Sur, Layakaari and Husn-e-Fann. The only thing lacking in this video is sound balance. I think Tabla volume could be a little bit more enhanced. Because Ustad Zakir Hussain is player who beleives in Voice, than noise. Love both Maestroes.

You could say the same thing about a master archer, tennis player etc etc. The mathematics involved in table is very simple number theory. No result in mathematics has been discovered by any tabla player.

It is more ..."SAD"...that there are too many Einstein's of music who are so eager to pass on their judgement on Ustad Zakir Hussain. Do they understand anything about rhythm...probably not ? Please unlearn what you know about Indian classical music and start from scratch... Learn the basics of melody and rhythm for 20 years before coming up with such extravagant nonsense.

Lets not begin from scratch.... And assume we r idiots. Instead we approach by quoting another man of calibre who can teach all of others... And an eminent vocalist,Pt. Bhimsen joshi who said. "if you show too much skill(kasrat) in your music, the raga ,dissapointed sits in the corner and refuses to come out" So... Talking of "scratch" there was no rythm in ancient Indian classical music The aalpa of a raga was so divine, that it mesmerised everybody until later periods introduced rhythm using pakhwaj, mridangam to include the essence of rythm. And now we have fun with music.... U can hear the audience clapping and exclaiming. But in a raga, u wont even be able to say a word when played, it makes us meditate. Above was a simple explanation of what few tried to say. Apart what you said was immensely correct too,Shahidji and zakirji being two of the finest players 🙂

@sanjivbokil8 жыл бұрын
+vidhata bachem You are absolutely on the dot. Can we be better judges than Pt Ravi Shankar? Read how he admonished Zakirbhai here: groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.music.indian.classical/Cdt39PSUnM0 By the way Zakirbhai could be God of tabla, but Indian Classical is not synonymous with tabla. Tabla is an accompaniment, one supposes.
@TejasM147 жыл бұрын
+Carl von Bailiff What a misreading of the situation. First, Zakir is a competent sound engineer apart from being a tabla maestro. He has produced and engineered numerous albums. So when he is not satisfied with the sound, likely there are good reasons for it. It is irritating for an artist of his caliber to deal with sound problems. The best of equipment is useless if you don't have a good sound engineer at the board. Secondly, Zakir is a dominant player. He worked hard his entire life to uplift the role of the tabla player from just being an accompanist. If people are not happy with his style, the artists and organizers don't need to call him.
