Great to see these superb cars getting the TLC they deserve. I've had mine for 20 years now and it's still my daily runner. Look after your MX5 Mk1 and it will look after you.

After watching your silicon hose replacement, I installed some of the smaller lines prior to reinstalling the engine. Easier to do during a swap!😂

This video triggered a Vietnam style flashback for me 😅 Remember doing these last summer when i was doing timing belt and accessories. Did a full hose swap / water pump etc at the same time. Even with all the stuff out the way i just remember spending ages feeling around and trying to work the spring clips on those two hoses. Ended up putting a mirror down there to convince myself they were on correctly aha. Always weirdly comforting to remember there's other people out there struggling with the same stuff

Dude the one at the back of the engine is a nightmare, I skipped it when I replaced my hoses last summer. I need to do it, couldn't get my fat hands back there. Lol

I was always taught to avoid jubilee clips on coolant hoses as they can become tighter/looser with temperature changes resulting in leaks. The OEM mazda style ones apply a constant pressure which stops this issue as they act like a spring.
@Ogma3bandcamp6 ай бұрын
I use one of each, one jubilee clip and one spring clip, at each end. Some may say overkill but m new hoses came with jubilee clips so may as well fit the old and the new ones.

Hi! Could you please link the coolant you're using for the MK1 that's comptatible with the Stoney racing hoses? Thanks!
The 1st hose you replaced.... I thought my hose was also split, but it turns out the nipple the hose clamps onto has perished. Can this pipe/nipple be replaced?
@Project3802 ай бұрын
yes you can but it is a massive pain, its sort of press fitted in there

So why is it recommened to swap to green coolant? I like green!
@Project3806 ай бұрын
so red coolant has o.a.t in it which is organic acid technology which can slowly eat away at silicon. green hasnt got o.a.t in it

What’s the difference between green and red ?(I don’t mean one is green one is red)
