Ratchets And Wrenches

Күн бұрын

In this video I'll go over one of the most overlooked part of your cooling system, with symptoms similar to a bad head gasket, engine running too hot, combustion gas in the cooling system, Coolant leaks, Coolant hose bursting etc to top it off usually this is a very easy fix.

Thank you very much for this video. Also for those with overheating temperatures, take the thermostat and put in a pot with boiling water. The valve in the thermostat should open at the temperature engraved in the thermostat. If doesn’t open at that temperature, replace it. I also do this test with a brand new thermostat before fitting it to make sure the valve opens at the temperature marked on the thermostat.

You are a very good presenter/teacher. So many Americans SHOUT at their audience, but you don't. How about the thermostat - another valve that if becomes stuck will cause over heating or the engine won't warm up at all as the valve will be stuck closed/open?

Very true. Had this very issue and it caused overheating. It was the cap/valve at the overflow container though. Another odd reason can be the overflow container itself. Same result… Should be mentioned that many modern cars with a closed cooling circuit don’t have a radiator cap anymore.

Just about 2 weeks ago I had an issue with a different valve in the cooling system in my SUV (the thermostat). However, rather than the excessive pressure putting a hole in one of my radiator hoses, blowing a gasket or something else to aggravate the hell out of me, it just ruptured one of the plastic ends of my radiator!!!😑🤦🏼‍♂️ Being that I'm not willing to pay almost $500 for a new radiator and I didn't feel like wasting time attempting to find the right type of adhesive, I purchased a plastic welder and fixed the tank that day in less than an hour! So far I have not had any issues with my first attempt at plastic welding, which I am so far quite pleased with, however I have been welding metal for over 20 years and it seems to be somewhat similar to T.I.G. welding and Oxy-Acetylene welding/brasing (using filler rod).... I am certain it's not the prettiest plastic welding job that's ever been done by human hands, but so far it's definitely holding up really well!!!👍

I ran out of coolant the other day sorry filled it and then a few days later I ran out of cooling again. My car started overheating so I had to pull over and walk to the local auto supply shop. I grab some coolant and filled up the radiator and the coolant reservoir. The car is still overheated and I couldn't figure out why and that didn't seem to be a leak or a noticeable leak. I then watch this video and went back to the auto supply store and got the radiator cap. It worked! The cap I had on my car was the original cap from 2005 so it was long overdue to be replaced. I would say if you run out of coolant make sure you fill up the radiator and the coolant reservoir and then replace your radiator cap because that'll be the cheapest option before you start throwing money away. Peace ✌🏾

I bought a Dodge car...4cyl engine..from a lady who meticulously kept it maintained...car looked showroom new. She had the timing belt change done at recommend interval...the car started to run hot...the shop replaced waterpump..still run hot...they changed radiator...still run hot. After many attempts to resolve the issue she decided to sell car. I let my wife use the car...at one point it overheated so badly the cylinder head warped. I went to get new cylinder head at a Dodge dealership. While there...a mechanic told me the timing belt might been improperly installed. Sure enough...I found the belt timing was off by one notch! Corrected it...with new head installed...the car ran great! 👍

Nobody seems to talk about coolant that boils below the spec temperature. At 20K miles my coolant was still testing at 40 degrees below zero but boiling at 220 F, even though the gauge was far from red/overheat. steam would bubble into the reservoir and push coolant too. That left an air gap in the system because not all the coolant would get drawn back in from the reservoir. There are no perceptible leaks and the system passed a pressure test and combustion gas test. Replaces the radiator, cap, thermostat - no solution. Replacing the coolant solved this issue that even a pro mechanic shop was glad to misdiagnose.

I had cupboard liner material so I cut it out and made a gasket to put it inside the Honda rad cap. Works good, not best yet? What are other great material to use as gasket?

Also the car was backed over by a construction truck and a wiring harness (grounding harness) was destroyed and the cooling fan ground was broken off. Amongst many other grounds. Spend the day rewiring the harness and seems to be doing well.

hmm my car has a coolant problem where it over fills the reservoir tank and bubbles. im assuming it's a headgasket or warpped head issue. i also replaced the radiator cap multiple times with new from japan and aftermarker from autozone. i really don't know what to do

I’m going to try this. My engine overheats when the A/C is running. I’ve changed the thermostat. When I turn the A/C off the engine slowly cools back to normal. While the engine is overheating the coolant reservoir is full.

My nissan xterra with a 4.0 is spilling out the overflow tank. That one has the spring on it. The radiator just has a cap. I've replaced both with gates overflow/radiator caps. Do you think that I should just buy an oem one? Truck runs good just hests up to around 226°- 230°.

I found a problem causing my honda civic to overheat If I knew this up front, I would have saved a lot of money on parts. The bottom of the OVERFLOW BOTTLE was dirty on bottom and was blocking the hose to radiator. Problem solved and runs great after a severe cleaning. Didn't even have to buy new bottle.

And this comment is in regards to the tip about boiling your NEW thermostat. To verify it. Works. Unless technology has advsnced or something. Ive both been told snd read in factory service manuals. That have all stated the same thing. Boil it only to verify its faulty or needs replaced. Never boil a new one. Basically once you boil it. To verify if it opens and shuts. It now must be rrplaced. Ive always followed this and never had it be in corerct. Ive also never encountered anyone. That can disprove it either. So. Ne ways.

I have 2012 Nissan Altima which has two thermostat in it. Since I live in a hot region where temperature is usually around 48 degrees celcius during summer so should we remove a single thermostat if not both of them?

So I am at a loss with my 2015 wrangler with the 3.6 liter engine. I have replaced the water pump, coolant temp sensor, radiator, thermostat, and ran it without the thermostat, burped it numerous times and vacuum filled it twice. My fan is working properly, and the coolant system is holding pressure and I just had the head gaskets done. I have literally done everything I can think of to do to get it to quit spiking up to 230-245 degrees. It’s very random but mostly does it on the interstate at about 70-75 mph, but it will also do it at around 40 mph. It gets plenty of ventilation and I have a dv8 raised vented hood. I also replaced the cap and my over flow stays on full. Is there anything else I can try? Or could it possibly still just have air in the system as I have heard these engines are really hard to get the air out of them.
