This works so well because of the British/English habit of dropping the letter H at the beginning of a word. Little Ronnie is outstanding as the shopkeeper.

They did two similar sketches over the years that didn't have the same impact. One was Ronnie Corbett reading out a shopping list that his wife had written in unreadable handwriting and the other was him dressed up as an Arab Sheik mispronouncing English.

5:00 I believe for awhile this sketch was used in training of new salespeople. The responsibility lies with the person behind the counter. Everytime he assumed what item the customer was asking for and offered it. Instead of assuming what the client wanted, he should have asked questions untill he understood precisely which product he should look for.

So happy that these comedic geniuses are still making newcommers laugh. I agree the second ending would have been even funnier, still this and the Dead Parrot Sketch by Monty Python have for many yrs been my favourites of all time. Both Ronnies so superbly inhabit their characters, their every mannerism and facial expression perfectly convey their thoughts of one another. And that's before you even get to the scriptwriting, line delivery and pacing.

I got nailed for cutting a video off too soon before, so I try to let them play out all the way now... As far as the bill hooks, I think it clicked for me because they were playing with sounds of words... so I read it slow, then I read it fast as billooks... However, I've been reacting to the Ricky Gervais show every week for six months now and he uses the other word "bollocks" a LOT lol. Again, Thanks for watching!
