why doesn't the long vowel sound rule work for the word GIVE
@TeacherRyane3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben! Rules in English are relaxed... We break them often! Generally speaking, the more basic words break the rules (give, love, come, and have.) The rule is still helpful to learn because 80% of words with A and E follow the rule, so that's not so bad.

Same vowel letter are used in feather and teacher bus pronunciation is changed. Why?
@TeacherRyane3 жыл бұрын
Hi Qasim! Great question- Unfortunately, English spelling does not always follow the rule. About 80%-90% of the words in English follow the rule for sounds A and E. Another very common word "love" does not follow the 2 vowel rule.
@npena94922 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but I think that you have to elaborate more in your explanations. Remember that ESL students/people watch these content and they need specific explanations on how these rules work so they can really understand how they need to pronounce words. For example, when you presented the words Survive and Soapy, you said that both words have an "e" at the end but the "e" sound in soapy is pronounced while the same "e" sound is silent in the word survive. That's fine, but did not explained the reason why?? At All! So explaining the difference and the reason Why, will be extremely beneficial and less confusing.

By respect, why we pronounce the letter U (you)in word Music and why we don't pronounce the letter U (you) in word umbrella ?
@TeacherRyane2 жыл бұрын
There are 3 consonants between the U and E in umbrella. When there are so many consonants, the vowel doesn't say the "alphabet name." Does that answer your question?

why the letter e make the previous vowel long it’s not make sense what kind of rule is this excuse me
@TeacherRyane2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! English rules are not very good- there are many exceptions for every type of rule. When there is a vowel + consonant + “e” it makes the vowel sound like the alphabet name. This rule is NOT 100%, but it will help guide you with pronunciation. Let me know if you have more questions.

Words that don’t fallow rules really make me hate the language! But I’m hoping this rules help me when I come across new words lucky my phone can give me the right pronunciation right away so I don’t have to wonder for long.

@@TeacherRyaneMost of the Indian languages are so easy to learn (Tamil is exception, in which a letter sounds differently depending on the word, making it difficult for non locals). Once you learn letters and guninthalu (don't have word in English for this), one will be in a position to write any sounding words
@TeacherRyane3 жыл бұрын
I had so many Indian friends in college and all of them spoke several languages. I was very impressed! English is so "special." If you study the history of the language, you start to see why the spelling system is so bad. It sounds like it would be much easier if Hindi or Telugu was the "lingua franca," but I think we are stuck with English for now.
