Jackson! I work in healthcare, and a lot of pharmacies do something called compounding, which is basically taking a medication in one form (ie a pill or a tablet), breaking it down, and making it into another form (ie a liquid). We do this often for children’s prescription medications, and we can also add in flavors or colors to make it more appealing. I don’t know if all pharmacies do this, but many offer this service. Additionally, you can take children’s formulations! Read the box to find out how many mg of the medication is in each mL, and then calculate how many mL you need to get the appropriate adult mg dose. Isaiah and Charlie are right - by chewing up the pills and tablets, you may not be getting the effects of the medication. Swallowing pills is tricky, but while you figure out what works best for you, there are ways around that barrier that will allow for you to actually get medication into your system properly! Cheers!

Okay, I figured it out. Jackson cannot swallow pills because he died after taking contaminated Tylenol. Charlie went back in time and made the Tylenol contamination event happen earlier so that Jackson wouldn't die later to a similar event. Jackson does not remember that old timeline consciously, but he remembers in spirit and so struggles to swallow pills. Edit: Spelling

Just a suggestion, but there was a similar crime to this in Japan. It was with vending machines and poisoned drinks. The person was never caught, and they were using some kind of pesticide. They seemed to be fine targeting men, but soon as the first woman died, the murderers stopped if i remember correctly. The whole thing was based on Japanese kindness, and i guess every once in a while, the vending machine could give you 2 drinks. So sometimes when someone got a second drink, they will leave it in the machine for a person in need. The only problem was that the drink was planted there by the murder, and the person who drank it would become incredibly ill then pass away. It would be cool if you guys tried doing a show on this because its not a story many people know of outside Japan.

Hey, I am a biomedical scientist in training and just one thing I would like to add: There's actually an antidote for Cyanide. Like Wendigoon said, Cyanide binds to iron in certain enzymes necessary for the cell to produce ATP energy. Treatments can be: Vitamin B12a ( Hydroxocobalamin ) because it binds to Cyanide reather quickly and creates a compound that can be excreted by the kidneys. This is the more modern method. OR a kit of amyl nitrite, sodium nitrate and sodium thiosulfate, ingesting these three things should create a rather large pool of ferric iron in your body for the cyanide to bind to instead of the enzymes. This method is older. Obviously you NEED to take the antidote REALLY quickly.

I think more common household stuff that can help or cure poisoning should be known about. I will use this comment for a PSA. For ethylene glycol(antifreeze) make the person(usually kids now a days) have them drink 2-3 shots of 80 proof alcohol in orange juice. The alcohol stops the crystallization which ends up ripping through the digestive tract lol. Still go to a hospital lol but this knowledge probably saved my little cousins life when I was at my family ruin lol. It was harder to convince people to have kids drink vodka than them properly store their poisonous chemicals. Having activated charcoal laying around also helps. All of this is only to delay your death. Still call poison control. (also do not mix ammonia and bleach, or vinegar and bleach. You can die.

VItamin k1 for rat poison as well. Naloxone for opioid overdoses, and whiile more rare to have around, flumezenil can undo benzo poisoning. Also rarely prescribed but can save a life is Cyproheptadine for serotonin syndrome. Also you can buy antidotes for tylenol and i believe ibuprofin as well.
@NikyCROW
@NikyCROW 3 ай бұрын
@@x-xPhobia Also, if you're gonna buy and use rodenticides at home, please be aware of what kind of poison it is and have an antidote ready. Like you said, Vitamin K1 is an antidote for rat poison, but only for rat poisons that act by blocking the Vitamin K cycle (Bromadiolone, chlorophacinone, difethialone, diphacinone, brodifacoum, and warfarin). There are also rat poisons that act by Vitamin D overdose, there are the ones based on metal phosphides and a pletora of other options. My uncle had a rat problem he solved with poison, but his cat also got infected and only survived beacuse my uncle had the antidote at hand and administered it quickly before taking the animal to the vet.

Important note to Jackson, some medicines are dangerous or just plain ineffective if chewed/broken, as they are designed to disperse either in your bowels and not before or they only break up over time, dosing the medicine slowly either to make the effect last longer or to prevent too high of a dose in one burst

@@69hikikomori Perhaps, but I don't know how many people know about such details, so I felt it worth a mention. Then again, the doctor prescribing the medicine will likely inform the patient, especially as difficulty swallowing pills is likely to come up. If nothing else it's a little fun fact :)

Yeah some meds are “enteric coated” to prevent them from dissolving in the stomach. Some do this because they are meant to be released slowly and chewing can either make them less effective or give too high a dose at once. Some also are coated because they can cause stomach issues or ulcers if they dissolve too soon. Aspirin and other NSAIDs can cause this.

I was a child when this happened. They were not tablets at that time. They were gelatin capsules. I have the same problem as Jackson, after I almost choked to death my throat closes involuntarily every time. Not only that, but I also take very long amounts of time chewing food. It’s purely mental, obviously, but it is usually due to trauma or something to that effect. Even an EXTREMELY small tablet can cause it to close. Hopefully one day I’ll finally overcome it but most of the time I take them sublingually.

Addendum to the bitter almonds: they are not just "raw/untreated almonds" they are a different kind of almond from sweet almonds, which is the kind we actually consume. Amateur Chemist here. Here is an over explanation ; it’s very regulated and you need a jewelers license for it to dissolve gold (one of the few things that can dissolve gold btw) and other precious metals . You CAN make it, but it’s dangerous and you need some know how to make it and not end up dead from the gaseous hydrogen cyanide. It kills by essentially chemical suffocation and also caustic and burns as well.

Start with a glass of water, and something small like a grain of rice, to maybe 1/4 of a vitamin gummy, to the small gel pills and work your way up from there.
