Majority of the immigrants I know who have come from worse situations than recent Black Americans have experienced are doing well, and many doing better than the average White person. I don't deny that people draw different cards and have disadvantages in life, whether it's before they make it or even after they do. It's an individual issue. @@BadBackOz if you’re ever really interested, there’s plenty of research online about this very topic. One thing I see, that makes a lot of sense, immigrants tend to leave their home countries and settle in the US where the most opportunity is. Black people born in this country, like myself, are more rooted. I was born in Louisiana, one of the poorest states in the country and one of the worst in terms of opportunity and upward mobility. Most people aren’t looking to blame anyone for anything. I’m doing well for myself DESPITE the disadvantages, but there’s no reason to pretend the disadvantages don’t exist.

They say they aren't political but inherent in their framing of the issue they think some sorts of interventions are called for, there is something systemic going on. Yet, if after 60 years of transfer programs, Great Society welfare programs and set asides we are still at 15% like the 1950s (as she claimed) this might not make the argument the authors think it does.
