I learned about it in college but yeah, sadly we know little of the ancestor's of the Native America people. This happens repeatedly through time. To the victor goes the pen, to the page goes THEIR side of the story. May we one day find our way to a better world, where conquer and conquest are a thing of the past known only in text.

I read it years ago. It's very informative and well worth reading. Native American history should be taugt in schools as a mandatory subject. It was shameful how the white man (I'm an elderly white woman) treated them. It was their country long before we got here. We arrived with our emotional bulldozer, attempting, and in some cases, suceeding, in wiping out whole ciltures. Disgraceful and heartbreaking.

Well take heart, it's your turn now. Soon every white Christian will be facing the same thing The Indians did. Nothing has changed since the beginning of time. Alexander The Great, Gengis Khan, The Romans, and the beat goes on. Well, except The Redemption of fallen man, Through Jesus The Christ.

Redcloud was one of my ancestors I heard trying to trace back to him. Which I think I would of found him cuz I'm back to the early 1800s for most of my family tree. I don't think he was immediate family but my grandpa's brother or cousin. I feel there is some relationship. I have my aunt working on it she works in the Beau of Indian Affairs.

The Red Cloud School, a Roman Catholic mission, is still on the reservation and has served the community for more than 100 years. Do something for today’s Indian Children and donate to the School that Red Cloud asked to be founded.

Your story is good, but the history is incorrect. Fetterman was not chasing retreating Lakota, he was out on a patrol to stop an attack on wood cutters. He decided to exceed his orders and pursue the Indians further. The Indians, hoping he would pursue, them set a trap wiped troops out. Red Coud was a great leader and did force the government to abandon the forts which were burned down He gained good treaty terms from the government. Later the government reneged and the Black his were taken from the Lakota. In my opinion we ought to give them back to the Lakota nation.

Which Indians? They were killing each other for a several thousand years before we got here. Then we had a civil war and after 4 years of whacking each other we turned on them they could not then or now unite under a single chief to push back. Tribal hatred is still alive and well.

It's a long and terrible story the English in Spanish settlers coming to the Americas! They were brutal to the Native Americans! They made shameful second citizens of the American Indian! Too bad the Native Americans in the beginning in the 1500s didn't have horses and firearms and they would have wiped out the European settlers!! My great-great-great-grandmother my dad side was full-blooded Cherokee Indian!

How is that surrendering when he defeated the US army many times, to the point that USA couldn't kill him nor defeat his army and who came up with the treaty is wasn't Red Cloud but the USA army and government who came up with that treaty you know why because they Couldn't defeat Red Clouds army of warriors in order for you too surrender you have too completely defeat your enemy by having him killed and destroyed his army and have him and his army surrender by defending them and the USA army FAILED IN THAT that's why USA government came up with the treaty in hoping that the war would end in peace because USA lost they could not defeat him you need to learn real history and not your own opinion history
