I have an unhealthy obsession with the PASGT system mainly the helmet so this video was great

Very nice piece. The PASGT and the USMC Lightweight are my favourite US combat helmets. Even more than the ACH and ECH. I haven't had a chance to get a look at the IHPS yet.

Don't bother with the IHPS helmet. It uses the same pad system as the previous 2 helmets, and can't even protect against handgun rounds without the heavy applique slapped on top

Great, thanks kid. Now I feel old. I exchanged my steel pot for the Kevlar in fall of 1984 in Aschaffenburg, Germany when I was a young private (I served 1983-2009 as an Infantryman MOS 11H). The first kevlars had sweatbands that were a bitch to clip on the suspension, we had to use a pair of pliers to press the tabs together to flip the little d-rings over to clasp the clip on. Then for some heads, the suspension adjustment tab was still too long so we figured a way to simply twist the Velcro tab around 2-4 times until it took up enough slack to get the tension set right. Like the steel pot, if the crown level for the sweatband isn’t set, I’ll give you a constant headache and the helmet will sit too low. In the beginning we didn’t use the chinstrap so we just tucked it behind and looped it once around the sweatband in the back. There’s two different types of covers in the chocolate chip pattern, one with foliage slits and one without. We would take 4 pieces of gutted 550 chord about 10” long and tie a hitch knot onto the camo band then run the 550 chord through the camo slits then run the chord under the Kevlar and tie the end around the suspension anchor points. We did this because the camo band would often easily slip off while in the field and it was generally accepted and in some units it was SOP to do this so we were all uniform. Someone later marketed some nylon straps that did the same thing that you can buy in Clothing Sales on base. And only airborne qualified Soldiers wore the nape parachutist pad that goes inside the Kevlar helmet, it’s considered stolen valor to wear the pad if you weren’t airborne. Have fun walking a 24 mile road March that has to be done in 6 hours with a full ruck and weapon….during the Kentucky summer heat. Enjoy!

Despite visual similarities, the PASGT is absolutely not based off of the German Stahlhelm, it's just that both the Germans and the US ended up using similar methods when studying the human body and how to protect it

The M-5 is the size followed by the mold that was used so the manufacturer could track for quality purposes. M= Medium 5 = Mold #5

If you had 10 machines making medium helmets and one of them is not meeting the requirements, wouldn’t you like to know exactly which one it is? That’s what the mold number is used for. Hope this helps.
