I like the Bisley look. Watching you shoot it allowed me to see how the grip fits in the hand. Very interesting, thanks! I bet the previous owner was drinking when that front sight job was attempted.
@johnzx6r2 жыл бұрын
The Bisley grip works better than you think it would. It's hard to describe, but when aiming the pistol it just seems to hang there. You don't really have to put a lot of effort into gripping the pistol - It just naturally fits your hand and you just need a light hold on it. For something that looks so weird, it's amazingly effective. I don't know what the idea was behind that sight. I can't figure out what range it would be sighted in for. With how high it was shooting at 25 yards, it has to be sighted in for close to 100 yards. I'm not sure of the reasoning of sighting in a relatively low powered black powder revolver out to that range.
@jeffersoncarlisle31252 жыл бұрын
@@johnzx6r Neat about the grip. I bet the pistol was already shooting a little high and the person thought that lowering the front sight would help. Nope, it still shoots high. Take another shot of whiskey and file her down some more...still a beautiful gun though...would be worth it to have a professional put a new sight on it!

I think the Front sight was shaved for quick draw reasons. Smaller chance of it getting caught in the holster, so the owner most likely used it for shooting from the hip only. Ngl i think it looks better this way but it does effect the aiming badly. It reminds me of the Colt m1860 front sight, wich is more smooth looking than the big front sight of the SAA.
@tonysalecki7 ай бұрын
Some people file front sights down for faster holster draws and instinctively shoot, like off the hip. Front sights are braised in and can be replaced. Also, change your nipples to Slix Shot nipples. Slix shots are ported larger and have side vents. That way the blow back doesn’t push spent caps back into your action

At my uncles passing back in 2000, part of his belongings (which my mother inherited) included one of these Ubertis. Been in storage ever since. I haven’t able to find any info on it as of yet. It has a 7” barrel with a 3” cylinder. No markings at all only a 44cf by the trigger guard. Any info would be appreciated. If we can’t find any info on it, I guess we’ll just destroy it or turn it over to our local police department. 🤷🏼♂️🫡

I still don't know what distance this was zeroed for. Considering how high it shoots at 25 yards, according to my calculations it will still be quite high even out to 50. Maybe 100 yards? But why in the world would someone zero a percussion revolver to that distance?

What an odd duck of a gun. Neat though. My best guess at the sight was someone wanted either to fast draw point shoot to point of aim or it's the old aim at the belt buckle to an extreme.
@johnzx6r Жыл бұрын
That's a possible explanation. I still can't think of any other possible reason they would want it to hit so off at any practical distance. Playing around with one of those ballistic calculators, from where the bullets were hitting at the distances I was shooting, as it stands now it appears that the point of impact to point of aim would be 150 yards!

So I personally have been a big fan of the Bisley style grips. Now when it comes to this particular revolver I'm not a big fan. I owned one of these (standard frame),and it's not for me. I have been a Remington guy for too long. For me it is about the ease of loading. on a side note I now have all of my test molds for all 3 calibers of cap and ball revolvers. 8 different. 31 bullet, 4 - .36, and 8 different for the .44. For the .44 there is 4 choices for Remington/small colt, and 4 choices for the Ruger/walker. If you're interested I can give you more information and pictures.

I am also a Remington fan boy, but I'm kind of liking these things, so far - warts and all. Sounds like you have been putting a lot of work into this. I am very interested in what you're working on.

Not really a fan of the percussion cylinders in a more modern wheel gun
@johnzx6r2 жыл бұрын
I don't really disagree - these are more or less designed to be a solution to a problem that shouldn't exist. Unfortunately, there are jurisdictions where it's difficult if not impossible to own the cartridge firing version. I live in a not so gun friendly state, and it's difficult to get an SAA clone here, but something like this is much easier to acquire. Not ideal, but sometimes you have to make compromises.

it seems to be the predecessor of the uberti 1873 cattleman.for some reason they have 2 barrel length options.a 5.5 and a 4 5/8.its not convertible either.its supposed to be the percussion version of a colt 1873 single action army.its a good looking gun but the reason I won't ever buy one is that instead of a loading lever it sports a faux ejector rod.it looks like that version has the same.do videos more often.that goes for you too slix sixguns.
@johnzx6r2 жыл бұрын
After posting this video, I found out a little more about it. The Cattleman name is apparently more recent. These were at the time labeled as Avancarica, which apparently means "muzzle-loader" in Italian. I assume this was to differentiate these from the cartridge firing versions of them. No loading lever on these - this comes with a (now useless) ejector rod, so the only way to load this is on a separate loading stand. Video was getting a little long, so I wasn't able to get around to mentioning that. I'm trying to put out more videos. I never seem to have the time to do the things I would like to do!
@tehpurplepills2 жыл бұрын
obviously, cartridges are just better, period. but if you're going percussion, this is basically the only (modern) looking one ive seen. ( as modern as a 150 yr old+ gun style is) The single-action look is better looking and a bit thinner than the loading lever percussion style, IMHO.
@egomaniac85102 жыл бұрын
Unfortunate about the sight. My guess is you could replace it or build it back up. My uberti new army has a very high front sight. Which is the second reason I bought it. It has reviewed as a close to point of aim .

It probably be cheaper to get another barrel from Taylor or a Uberti distributor and change it out
@johnzx6r2 жыл бұрын
I have given thought about going that route. Right now, a new barrel is about $130, and I'm not sure if the front sight is already installed on it. I don't think putting a new barrel onto the frame is a task I'd be capable of doing, so that means I'd have to send it out to have someone install it for me, so there is another added expense. So I'm not sure yet what I want to do about this.
