This video provides an overview of non-judicial punishment (NJP) under Article 15 of the UCMJ.
NJP (Article 15) is an administrative means the commander can use in order to address misconduct. It is an option that provides more weight than a formal written counseling, but when a special court martial is not warranted, at that particular time.
If the service member denies NJP, the commander may then convene a special courts martial. In the alternate, if the service member has a previous formal written counseling or NJP, he/she can give the service member an additional formal counseling and then send the service member to Administrative Separation (AdSep) for a pattern of misconduct.

I was threatened with an AR-15 so I requested a court martial. I was pressured to not do that but I wanted it as I thought the AR-15 was bullshit. Suddenly that AR-15 went away and I was left alone.

Seems like the higher rank you are, the easier you get off from punishment, especially for officers.

Not true. If an officer gets a letter of reprimand they are essentially kicked out of the service. An equivalent for an enlisted would be an NJP

Are subordinates ever really held accountable for their actions? An Officer would NOT be held accountable

What if you’ve already gotten your enlistment bonus and you get a article 15, does it have to be a certain article 15 to get the bonus taken away?

A15 in itself shouldn't affect bonus. If it leads to discharge and you don't finish your contract, govt will get money back for the time you didn't do.

Can you be given a general discharge if you only had one NJP for missing a doc appointment?

Schedule a free consultation with me over the phone and we can discuss the specifics of your case. Here is the link: militarydefenselitigator.com/book-appointment/ Here is the section that may be relevant to your situation: Marine Corps Order 1900.16 CH2 is the Separation and Retirement Manual (Short title: MARCORSEPMAN). Paragraph 1003 lists the different types of separation. Upon release from active duty, the characterization of separation may be: Honorable, General (Under Honorable Conditions), or Uncharacterized. Paragraph 1004 of the manual lists and describes the various characterization of service, and when each is authorized. Honorable Upon EAS Separation is described in paragraph 1004.2.a.(1). Its states: "Honorable characterization is appropriate when the quality of the Marine’s service has met the standards of accepted conduct and performance of duty for military personnel. Characterization will normally be honorable for Marines with both average proficiency marks of 3.0 or higher and average conduct marks of 4.0 or higher. Marines with proficiency marks below 3.0 and conduct marks below 4.0 may receive an honorable characterization at the separation authority's discretion. The separation authority may determine an honorable characterization of service is warranted in cases where a Marine’s service is otherwise so meritorious that any other characterization would clearly be inappropriate." General Upon EAS Separation is described in paragraph 1004.2.b. It states: (1). A separation authority may assign a general (under honorable conditions) characterization of service to enlisted Marine regardless of the Marine’s rank. (a) Corporals and below with average proficiency marks below 3.0 and conduct marks below 4.0. Characterization of service for Marines in this category should be general (under honorable conditions). No additional documentation or justification is required to assign a general (under honorable conditions) characterization of service in these cases. (b) In all other enlisted cases, the conduct at issue must meet a basis that could result in involuntary administrative separation per paragraphs 6210, 6212, 6213, or 6215 of this Manual Order. The Marine must be notified in writing and be afforded a reasonable opportunity to submit matters for consideration. If a separation authority then concludes that a general (under honorable conditions) characterization of service is still warranted, the reasons for that determination must be documented on page 11 of the Service Record Book/Electronic Service Record (SRB/ESR).
