I think Ilia is fighter of the year. His 2 wins have much more historical significance and much higher level of fighters. Jiri and Jamahal both got the belt against a 243 year old Glover and would hardly be champions otherwise. Kalil was great but again lacks in significance. Have a great year.

I lost respect for DDP during his trashtalk against Strickland. Sean wasn't an innocent, he poked the bear, but DDP went way too far. Especially since he had been selling his personal brand as a mature man, someone who comports themselves well. Can't turn a corner and be a nasty sociopath if your trying to sell yourself as the good guy. He became a villain character with that, like Colby but with sharp teeth. Dude sure is a great fighter though, that's all that really matters. But he already proved he isn't like Khabib or Islam, men who behave ethically no matter what is happening.

He didn't just reference it lightly either, he made of point of pounding it home. Sean's brand is all "I'm a scary sociopath" but DDP's behavior is way more legit sociopathic. Pathological level of belief in self and willingness to do anything to reach his goal. Respond to attacks with massive escalation. He knows the surface level behaviors, but that is no gentleman. All the same, makes for an interesting monster of a champion. I do not count him out against Khamzat, that is two men fueled to greatness by trauma, super interesting matchup.
