The Ruy Lopez is one of the first openings you learn for White as a beginner. Beginner lessons focus on controlling the center, developing early, and protecting your pieces, so Ruy Lopez and Italian are probably the only two that a beginner will see for a while.
@hash4badi
@hash4badi Жыл бұрын
@@jackborkowski5580 you're right about the Italian, but the Ruy Lopez is probably the most theoretical opening in chess. It may be playable at beginner level because neither player will know theory, but at intermediate level opponents will know good lines and it's tough to make it out of the opening without theory. Most people don't recommend the Ruy Lopez until studying and reaching a certain level. It's definitely not a good opening to choose without any knowledge of theory

9:45 Someone should really tell Northernlion that putting all his pawns to light squares while his opponent only has a dark bishop is not "making the bishop stronger". It's making the bishop useless by making it has no targets. That endgame is a easily holdable if he puts all his pawns to light squares and block the king from infiltrating.

NL, the Anti-Fried-Liver is hot garbage. It's called that because you're trying to prevent the Fried Liver at all costs, surrendering development and centre control in the process. If you really are afraid of the Fried Liver, learn the main line. It's five moves. The attack falls apart, you lose a pawn, but your pieces are much better. Being scared of an opening can lead you to accepting a worse one. Still good content though, good luck.

why is this guy mating with a queen like it’s a rook
@Gabu_
@Gabu_ Жыл бұрын
Because why not? The best forced mate is the one you find
@faznaz7455
@faznaz7455 Жыл бұрын
@@Gabu_ The ideal technique is following the king with the Queen from a knight’s length. Until the king gets to the corner where you stop and premove king to 2 squares on diagonal from corner (e.g. on c6 if enemy king on a8) and once that is done you bring Queen one square on diagonal from corner (e.g. on b7 if enemy king on a8). Once the king is in the corner, the second part of the sequence mentioned here should all be premoved. May be a lot of words, but most efficient once you practice.
@arrowofkira5658
@arrowofkira5658 Жыл бұрын
I think he does it for practice, I'm sure he knows the knight opposition to corner their king to mate with queen and king and honestly it doesn't matter as long as you don't timeout. Honestly it's instructive in case some people don't know how to do it with rook and king.

The idea is that you attack a weak pawn in front of the enemy king with the knight and bishop at the same time so you can safely take with the knight and target the undefended rook.
