Great tips 👍🏾🌱, I had same problems when I first started hydroponics. That algae and root rot was bad.

Great tips. I've always been an outdoor gardener so hydro is new to me. I had no idea about the pump filter or any of these issues. Mostly my biggest issue is the plants shading each other because they are doing so well! I might try doing fewer pods so each plant has good health. Thank you!

Gonna set up aquaponics with my turtle cuz his tank’s cycled perfectly and I have to do regular filter maintenance anyway 🐢 He’s already getting my house plants to grow four times as fast/large

I’m not sure how to say this without just saying it. I’m concerned because some of the information you are putting out into the world in this video has the potential to unintentionally cause harm. I hope you will amend the video accordingly for the safety of anyone who views this and is new to hydroponics, horticulture, or just gardening in general. I wish that someone had told me all the things I’m about to impart upon you before I got started! Sometimes you learn the hard way. Growing food under any certain conditions requires particular skills and finite knowledge of those conditions. If a person does not understand all the knowledge required then that can create a potentially hazardous situation. Someone could get sick, someone could die. And in today’s litigious society……. At 2:45 you mention the use of PINE-SOL. This, nor any other harsh chemical solvent should be used anywhere near food at any stage, ever. What should be recommended here to STERILIZE the equipment is to spray and clean with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), or potentially a spray of vinegar with tea tree oil (depending on plant species you’re intending to grow). Plants, like people, can be particular about their preferences. Also, several times in the video you give vague approximations concerning measurements. This is patently dangerous. One person’s approximation of “a little bit” can vary widely. There are specific formulas and specific ratios for just about anything and everything. It is best to be exact and therefore safe. For an example of a dilution, one would mix 1 teaspoon to 1 gallon. You mention algae issues. You never mention your light cycle. Light cycles are important for plant health and growth. Dormant dark periods are necessary. Light cycle can also affect algae growth. I’m curious, do you leave the light on all the time? Please do not add root hormone powder to liquid for food crops like that. Follow the directions please for safety!!! Some plant cuttings will root with honey and cinnamon rubbed on the prepared stem before putting it in a growing medium. This is a good way to root some things in soil but not in water. You mention not killing the beneficial bacteria. Most of the methods for cleaning the filter that you mention in the video will, in fact, kill the beneficial aerobic bacteria. Even using tap water to rinse the filter will potentially kill many of these bacteria. You have to clean the filter with well water, spring water, reverse osmosis, etc. It has to be water not from municipal city water supply where bromines are added to water supply during conditioning processes. If replaced or cleaned improperly, the filter will have to start over from scratch growing the beneficial bacteria. The filter is supposed to have some slight discoloration. It may appear gray or brown. It usually doesn’t need to be replaced, just cleaned with regularity, with pure water. Maybe add another level of mechanical filtration pre sponge? These were a few of my dilemmas when I first started down the road of hydroponics. Wish someone had told me! I learned the hard way that mistakes can cost you both time and money. I learned then that research is your friend! Also doing aquaponics and living walls now! So much cool stuff out there to discover! I’m glad you’ve taken such an intense interest in hydroponics and hope you continue to grow and learn and spread knowledge. I appreciate and commend all your efforts at putting out interesting content! Knowledge like this can take one great places and do great things. Thank you for putting this video out and spreading the knowledge! Blessed Be.

I understand, let me clarify i only use pine sol to rinse out the tank i use pure pine sol whic is just water acid and pine needles. After i wipe it with pine sol i rinse it out. As far as algae i use the labels to block out the light to the sponge. Th cycle is predetermined by machine. Rooting hornone is only used when i transplant them into the garden which is primarily what i use mine for.

I figure if i can wipe my countertop ans sink with pine sol then i can wipe out my tank
