The UK's most Northern Fire Festival - Up Helly Aa

Up Helly Aa is a fire festival that takes place in the Shetland Islands, every year. In 1870, a group of young men came up with the name Up Helly Aa and introduced guizing into the New Year celebrations. They also began the tradition of the torch lit parade. It was not until the late 1880s that a Viking galley appeared as part of the festival, and it was later before Guizer Jarl, the chief guizer, and his squad of Vikings, the Jarl's Squad, also became part of the procession. This is linked to ancient Norse rituals marking the Sun's return after winter. This is Up Helly Aa.
