Great update on a very impressive restoration project. The Carpenters Workshop should in my view, get an award for the sensitivity of restoration, with Larch wavy-edge cladding and brick floor. It will be an amazing resource for popularizing canal life, particularly amongst young people. The restored dry dock is also very impressive and a good indication of the projects priorities in restoring not only the canal, but also some of the adjoining infrastructure. Great stuff. Thank's.

@@malcolmrichardson3881 every single thing they do down there is to restore to its historic point. People often ask why they don’t widen the locks so wide beams can get down them, I get the question but that means losing all the heritage assets along the canal.

Numbers are crazy down there these days. I don’t volunteer these days as making videos takes up any free time I have away from the family and my business but when I did a few years ago you wouldn’t get 10 at a party, nowadays you go down there sometimes and there’s 3-4 teams all working in different areas, on different ends of the canal. It’s a hive of activity

It's just that the TT diggers always get* terribly excited when a curved wall tacked on to a rectalinear remains appeared, with 'are we looking at an apse?' .... usually followed by 'it's too early to say for sure! *note tense. They're back and on this very platform.

They have certainly come on leaps and bounds since I was last walking along the canal in September. Are they going to rebuild the lock keepers building the other side if the bridge? It’s waney edge Larch cladding by the way

@@Fearnstein yes but it’s not really on the radar at the moment. The next things you’ll see is the accommodation bridge, the carpenters finished, a roof on the dry dock all of these things are well into happening, then bottom lock and the saw pit, there’s money for the saw pit from a will I believe and there’s stuff happening towards the bottom lock which I’m not allowed to mention as it’s not completely confirmed yet.

We need the canal locks restored in Runcorn (Cheshire) … there used to be a flight of locks connecting the Bridgewater Canal spur to the Manchester Ship Canal … I believe that they were filled in when the bridge across the river Mersey was built in the 1960’s … I understand that there is some interest in restoring this historic link between river and canal but I’ve not heard anything more about this project. Does anyone have any info about this ?

@@CourtAboveTheCut hi … I’m happy that I’ve found out more information about this restoration project but it’s definitely still in its infancy … it looks like it will take a good few years to complete so I’m optimistic about still being around for the opening ceremony … I’m 71 years old now .. but you never know !

Not trying to undermine the video, and a genuine question. I’ve lived on Pewsham for 20 years and have seen a lot of stop start going on with bit of canal, any idea when it’ll join up with the rest of the Wilts and Berks canal?

They are waiting for the EA to make a decision on the melksham link, it’s been going on for at least a decade. Once that’s done they can start linking the kennet and Avon to the Avon at Melksham then continuing on to lacock and here. The trust has changed drastically over the last 5 years or so, it’s now a much more capable organisation
