Great explanation of all that goes into this. I understand this vid is 7 yrs old, so for anyone asking, the current policy is: "Full Setup - $40.00 for Ukuleles Under $399 / Free for Ukuleles $399+" I was about to just go buy a uke I don't need if this setup was free! Won't be doing that now, but I will certainly buy from you for the next uke I get !

If you are going to buy a Uke over the internet, this is the only place to get one! The set up is fantastic, as you have seen. I have just ordered my sixth Uke from them and I know I will be getting a quality instrument. I bought a Uke from my local music store that supposedly does set ups...and was I disappointed! After playing my Ukes that had been set up from the ukulele site, it didn't even come close. I will only buy my Ukes from these guys! They can turn a cheap uke with a terrible action into a fine playing and sounding instrument. Also, you don't have to worry about cosmetic issues as they make sure that the appearance is up to their high standards as well. Great customer service as well. I love this place!

Thanks for the video. I'm in the UK and people talk alot about making sure the seller sets up the instrument, but I never knew what that meant. At least now I know what they mean, and can ask the sellers what they do etc.

hey quick question, is they're a solid way to adjust intanation without a truss rod? the intanation on my uke is off by 20 cents by the harmonic to the fretted note

A very informative video. Almost too much information! It does beg the question, that if your ukuleles come from reputable manufacturers, why is the work you do necessary? Or is it only a small sample you have to attend to (and which make gives you the most work?!!?). When you worked on the nut, is it always better to file the grooves rather than take out the nut and file along its base, as you did with the saddle. What is the optimum shape for that groove?

Most affordable ukuleles are mass produced in factories. Making a ukulele's sound perfect is the difference of millimeters on the saddle/nut. Human attention makes the world of difference in the acoustic world, especially ukuleles. Almost every ukulele I have purchased (unopened, new from factory) have had action that is too high. The rest could sound better, but I don't want to pay to fix it. To have a ukulele set up after purchase/delivery is around $60+. The Ukulele Site is one of the most reputable ukulele distributors in the world. Dude knows what he's talking about.

I'm surprised you don't tape off the fingerboard while working on the frets. It can be very easy to mark up the wooded fingerboard.

Kuma San after doing 30,000 setups the man has perfected his technique. Beginners would be wise to tape off perhaps? If you pay attention you’ll see that he removes any fine scratches that the wood may have endured with 0000 steel wool.
