The Ullswater is a fly that I use when chasing wild brown trout on our lakes in the English lakes District. I tied the original back in 1995 and in those days it was just called 'The palmered Hare's ear' because that's what it was, but it proved so successful in the following years that in 2001 it was christened the 'Ullswater' and it is still one of the first flies I turn to when setting up for a day in the lakes. I would class it as a typical loch style top-dropper fly.
