fantastic presentation and insight Matt. If was half my age and just staring out, you have just inspired me to go Excel racing. Sadly I am neither. Great effort as usual.

While I have nothing to do with Excels (only the Microsoft kind :D) and door to door racing, your videos are an inspiration to follow, to keep going, to learn new things and push it to the limit. For years my attempted racecar was serviced by an acquaintance... and still is. But earlier this year I got a space together with a mate and I've started learning the basic of basics, got a bunch of tools (Ryobi because of you and MCM, though they're hard to get in this part of the woods) and now I'm beginning to do basic servicing and little mods by myself. Thank you.

Mate that's amazing to hear and awesome that you are having a crack at doing stuff yourself, it's really satisfying. Don't be affraid to to ask for help or hang out with guys or girls that are more knowledgable, i do that regularly and the amount of information you pick up just helping someone out or watching them is invaluable. Thanks for watching legend :)

Great video and explanation, as you covered alot of elements people seem to ignore, or take for granted, but all that define/influence how often you get to participate with what you have invested in. I have an interest in drag racing, and see alot of parallels in your breakdown of expenses. From the initial set-up/buy in cost, to the typical short term event costs, to the yearly ongoing costs, it all takes a toll, and best to be considered, for no other reason than being realistic with ones expectations. Despite the often overwhelming expenses that don't seem to stop, I think it is also important to celebrate some of the positives to remind us why to get involved. These include building relationships with like minded people, overcoming challenges and life skills, and expanding ones own personal growth and development. Again, appreciate the video, was a well explained and thorough review, and enjoyed seeing your enthusiasm for what you guys do, great to see 👍. Cheers, Drewfus

You cost me a load of money Matt.... But Heck..... what a load of fun......Having said that we still got to our first rally for under $10,000. That is everything, car, safety gear, tyres, etc We do 1 day rally's in Tasmania 1,000 k's round trip, leave the house at 3 AM, recky from 8 am , race from 10 to 5pm back about 10 / 11 at night.

Haha i take no responsibility :P oh man one day rally sounds fun, and honestly it's so much better, you still get the rest of the weekend for family stuff etc, i love it

Awesome info Matt. Do you think a solo driver can get by without the need for extra hands at a meeting weekend?
@TheNuggetProject
@TheNuggetProject Жыл бұрын
They sure can I do it most of the time! It's much easier with help but it's a lot to ask mates to give up their weekends.

The Redbubble advertisement that came on during your episode has almost identical music to your intro

Heh, not surprising, I use a paid music site for royalty free music, a lot of other companies use the same site so it happens from time to time :)

Quick question, can you camp at the track if you didn't hire a garage? I have a speedway car, so I have the main stuff but I don't have the circuit stuff lol. In speedway you would just camp in your trailer so just wondering if that was possible
@TheNuggetProject
@TheNuggetProject 11 ай бұрын
Would totally depend on the track mate but from my experience at Vic tracks, unfortunately not. Winton have a camp ground at the back of the track which is a cool little spot, i've stayed there a couple of times, but you still have to exit the camp grounds and drive around the outside and then back into the track. Philip island definitely not but there is a camp ground up the road, i don't believe there is any camping anywhere near sandown, might be a caravan park somewhere. but yeah it's not like speedway sadly where you can just setup and camp, it's popular to do that in england and many other places but doesn't seem to be a thing in vic at least :/

Do you know What sort of medical problems would prevent you from racing ?
@TheNuggetProject
@TheNuggetProject Жыл бұрын
Not officially no, but i think if the doc pics up you have eyesight, hearing or heart problems it would be a conversation you'd have to have with motorsport australia to see if its something that would stop you racing or if you manage it properly you can still race, but i'm not sure on the details.

I’d spend some money on good sim set up and a faster track car. Unless you really wanna go racing, I’d avoid. From someone who has raced go karts and built an improved production car back in the day. Firstly, it’s always more expensive and political. If you spend $30k on one of these and then someone crashes into you, you’re gonna be upset, and the crashes I’ve seen on KZbin have been big. You’re racing against people who might not have ever raced anything before. I’d spend more money initially if you’re buying a car because anything cheaper tends to cost you more money in the long run, and secondly buy a car off someone who is a similar build to you. Getting the seating position right when there’s already a cage in it will be very difficult. You’d wanna build a cage around where you sit, ideally.

Yup all good points. However there is a big difference between booting around a track and actually racing as you'd know. And if people want to race they won't be satisfied with racing against the clock for long, I know for me I get bored on track unless I'm door to door with someone. So it all depends on what the person wants :)

@@TheNuggetProject 100%. If you can afford it, or afford to lose it, do it. I used to work for a place that supplied some of the gear to these blokes. It amazing how it’s grown. The thing I don’t like is when it started it was meant to be ultra budget, and like you said in the video there’s guys who play around with the car to find the last tenth, but $50k plus for one of these is not what the category started out achieve. Anyway, it is what it is.
Has Excel racing become too expensive?
