For starters, a HUGE shout-out to my friends, Steven, Andrew, Sam, Colt, and Kalvin! Without y'all's help, this build would have taken eons, and I'm exceptionally grateful for the time y'all put in.
As of this posting, it only has about 60 miles on it, but is easily one of the most impressive 6.4 PSDs I've ever been around (and I'm not saying that because I built it). This thing weighs over 10,000 lbs, and this video was filmed over 6400 feet in elevation. I genuinely wish this truck was mine, now.

I tow my 15,000 pound rv with my 2010 6.4. 135k miles. Fully deleted.. tows like a dream...

Just wanted to say your video is one of the only ones that shows running and driving setup with the speed of air pistons. I have been looking everywhere for a video like yours. Speed of air should be paying you because they have next to no advertising using a video similar to yours! Would love to hear any follow further ups you may have on your awesome build!

Follow-ups are pending a turbo change. The S369, even with the Turbonator housing, is not the ticket I thought it would be. Currently, probably going to try an S364, in the Turbonator housing, and see how that runs, and, pending that result, might go back to factory-style, modified compounds. Otherwise, it runs awesome, and when the turbo finally spools, it's a beast.

Love it man! I have a shop building me a fummins excursion with a ve pumped 5.9 24v head compound turbos using the speed of air pistons right now. Also alot of suspension uogrades. We just got started on this project and hope to be done by December.

Well, so far, the thing is an absolute beast. However, I'm disappointed in the S369 with the Turbonator housing. I realize it's a big turbo, so I'm not blaming the Turbonator, but I do feel like it should still be better. I'm considering changing the turbo setup, and currently on the fence as to exactly what direction I want to go with that; either a smaller single, or 59/72 modified compounds.

Funny just contacted them about those pistons, Nothing wrong with our engine so far but were at 170k and just thinking about a rebuild or replace.

Any updates? Very curious about mpg with the speed of air pistons and a video of the exhaust note with the turbonator outside of the cab would be awesome.

@@VinceG2413 the turbonator doesn't whistle very much. It actually whistled less, on the exhaust side, than my 7.3 does. I took it off, though. It definitely did NOT perform how I expected, with the S369. Maybe it would work better with different sized turbos or something, but it was NOT the ticket. I wound up putting factory-style compounds back on it, and tuning it myself. Now it runs fantastically!

How do you go about getting the pistons from speed of air? They don't offer the dimpling on the 6.7l steel pistons. Do you have a contact at speed of air I could talk to? I called them and the guy that answered said they are in R&D for those pistons and they probably won't be ready to release till next year sometime.

@@CorneliuTurturica I had to buy the pistons, then send them in to be modified. They also had to develop a new pattern for them, because it's a 6.7 piston, but it's being used in a 6.4, and the injector pattern is different for the 6.4 nozzles.

@@leebo92_38 the pistons are steel, they're mounted on Carrillo rods, and the whole thing is spin balanced to 10,000 RPM, so if any of the rotating assembly gives, something else catastrophically failed long before.

Doing great, so far, although I haven't put many miles on it. The S369 was not a good turbo choice for the application, even with the Turbonator housing. I need to switch it out for an S364 and see if that makes it what I think it ought to be. I also failed to properly protect the wiring harness, that goes to the K16 pump, from the heat from the single turbo kit, so I need to fix that, and the downpipe that doesn't fit quite right, as well.

Serious question, why would you sink 3 motors into that truck? That much money could’ve bought you a nice 6.7 powerstroke that wouldn’t need torn apart all the time.

Well, the first one was the original, factory engine, so we've only put two into it. Both replacement engines, collectively cost about $40k, or about $45k less than a new, similarly equipped, 6.7. In order to get into a 6.7 in that $30-40k range, you're looking at used trucks with more miles than are currently on this '08. Not to mention, the first engine lasted 8 years, and the second lasted 6. My parents bought this truck brand new, so it's been paid for, in full, for over a decade. So, if you were retired, on a fixed income, would you spend $25k building an engine for a truck that you don't have a payment on, or $80k+ on a new truck?

Just curious how much that build was in parts? And did you purchase from KDD then send the parts out for coating or did KDD have them coated?

In parts and processes alone, we were crowding $30k. The engine kit from KDD was a little over $19k. They were able to have some of the parts cryo-treated, but I had to get the kit, then send the rings to Total Seal, get them back, send everything to WPC, then send the pistons to Speed of Air.
