This flight was only 1.5 hours but I don’t really think dogs even understand time so I’m sure it wouldn’t make any difference👍🏻 we’ve flown a few times in the hold now and he’s always come out unscathed. I think the key is a lot of quality crate training in advance 😊

Appreciate the video as we have a long flight (two actually!) for our dog and this helps. I will try to record mine as well. What camera did you use and could you see the pup during flight or was this recorded and seen after only? Did they push back about filming or it did not matter?

We just used a Go Pro but the battery only lasted until he was put on the plane then it died. We couldn't see when it was recording, only afterwards. We didn't let them know we had a camera inside, tbh I am not sure if it's allowed or not (probably not) but no-one noticed and it arrived in one piece at the other end!

This is a super tiny airport. You literally see through to the other side where they put the cases on the conveyor belt so you can see exactly what they are doing. So it was no problem 😊

@sopaipillapesadilla7023 it’s always been very easy to find for us, there’s always big signs. Other times he’s just been brought to the conveyor belt where the luggage arrives. I think it depends on the airline and the airport. Best to ask the airline directly and they should be able to give you the correct info 😊

Hi, this was a Go Pro camera we secured using cable ties. The battery life wasn’t so great, it only lasted until I got to the plane so wasn’t able to capture anything of the flight itself.

Thankfully, she saw us and settled down right away but it was clearly very stressful for her. It has been three months since and there have been no signs of trauma or change of behavior after the flight.

This camera is a pretty old GoPro so the battery didn't last as long as we would have liked. We just bought a new Go Pro 11 and wanted to test it as are flying tomorrow but we are renting a crate from the airline so won't be able to put it inside :(

that crate isnt big enough for him- his ears are touching the top so he cant hold his head up properly Brave boy tho. This is comforting that if they are crate trained they seem more curious about whats happening, than scared- I imagine take off and landing is the scariest- the rest is a breeze if they feel safe in their crate and as long as theyre not exposed to long waits or extreme temps

It’s just the angle of the camera, the ears aren’t actually touching the top of the crate. Definitely need to be crate trained for a long time before a flight, we did about 6 months if I recall rightly. For take off it’s not the movement that concerns them it’s the loud noise, he’s the same when travelling in cabin, on take off he just sits up a bit wondering what the noise is but sits straight back down.

Not at all. We don't believe that giving the dog medication or sedatives is good for the dog at all and would never give medication unnecessarily.

@@WylieWestie I have to disagree. I heard crazy stories about dogs being on plane for hours, freezing, scared..this can cause trauma, so it is not unneccesary at all but instead a help to quickly sleep through the stress :) (cat owner and dog lover talking here)

Everyone has their own opinions for sure but in our experience there has been no need for medication and I personally feel it’s unnecessary to medicate when the animal is fully crate trained and is used to being in such situations. I think that the possibilities of adverse affects to medication etc are a higher risk than a fully trained dog becoming too stressed.

It’s pretty straight forward if you have all your documents in place. They check all the documents and the dog. Process varies slightly where you arrive. We’ve arrived into both Samui and Bangkok. If you’re only in Thailand 3 months then back to Europe make sure you do a titer test in Europe before you leave as you’ll need that to get back in. He has a water tray attached to the front, it’s a mandatory requirement to have water on the flight. No snacks as it was only a 1.5 hour flight, don’t want him to poop and could also be a choking hazard if eating unsupervised.

Hi, unfortunately not. Your best bet will be to speak to the animal quarantine section at Johor Bahru border crossing or Malaysian general animal quarantine. I assume it would be quite easy from Singapore to Malaysia but the other way round will be more difficult as will probably need quarantine in Singapore

29 hours is a long time! Maybe see if it’s possible for them to let the dog out during the layover. As long as the dog is well crate trained they should be fine but id think even the most well trained dog would need to pee over that length of time so will be a bit uncomfortable lying in it for the rest of the journey 😔

That’s a shame. My flight in the hold was only 1.5 hours. Not sure I would be ok for that length plus all the hanging around before the flight getting to and from the airport etc. longest trip I did was 24 hours door to door but that was in cabin and got to walk around and pee during transit.

Wow, 29 hours really is long. I am also flying with KoreanAir soon but it´s a non stop for about 11 hours. They do make sure the dogs are safe (lightning, heating, AC are managed by the pilot)

I didn’t drink any of the water on my flight but it was a short flight. I personally believe the animals when well crate trained just sleep most of the time as it’s dark so like night time. It all depends on the individual animal and how they are trained IMO

At that time he wasn’t registered as an ESA. But also we flew Bangkok Air direct into Samui and they don’t recognise it either so couldn’t have flown in cabin anyway.

I always think that there should be a section of the plane that you can go visit them to make sure they are ok or go sit with them. In this day and age anything is possible and the amount of people that want to fly with their animals is quite high. Especially after covid so many more people now have pets. There’s so many things that could be done to make it easier travelling with animals
