Helpful hints! Have to put in a word for ArqBackup, which lets you use Amazon S3 or any other cloud storage provider. Much cheaper if you don't mind configuring the storage yourself.

Great Advise. Thanks ... been vulnerable and lost data in a burglary. I had a back-up strategy but it had it's weaknessed. I lost a few projects but the main problem was the time to replace hardware, software, install, updates and getting back-ups from the cloud. Plus here in Spain we only have max 8MB web connection and we have earthquakes and power outages at least once a week ! NIGHTMARE !! I spend far too long worrying and managing data for personal, hobbies and business. And they say the web makes life easier ... I never been so worried and feel so exposed!

What if some samples on your main drive get corrupted ? Then the corrupt samples will get copied onto the other drives
@keys4words
@keys4words 5 жыл бұрын
Apple's Time Machine would allow you to revert back to when the files were uncoruppted, or pull the uncorropted files from it and replace them on your main drive. Good question.

I like how you organize your folders. Btw how do you save ableton effects racks into your folders? The way i do it is i group everything that's in the fx in a rack and drag it somewhere. idk if it ll work if i open it from the "outside" (external hdd, cloud)

You should of reached out to Backblaze and got them to offer a discount code for their service since you are endorsing it. Just a thought. Anyways, signing up now!

No stress, i bought it already, all good. But maybe for others... Usually companies will throw out an olive branch if you endorse them in a video like this. Good service, and thanks for the push to use an online backup... My HD backup game is pretty good but can never be too prepared. Enjoy your other vids too, keep up the good work man.

Very good tut bro. Hey, did you made partitioning of the 10TB drive I guess? What advantage do you see on doing that?
@BeatsbyVanity
@BeatsbyVanity 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The 10TB was made up of five 2TB drives, if that answers your question?
@omarsorianolopez5290
@omarsorianolopez5290 4 жыл бұрын
@@BeatsbyVanity and why did you choose that option instead of getting a 10tb drive?
@BeatsbyVanity
@BeatsbyVanity 4 жыл бұрын
Because the likelihood of a 10TB drive failing is much higher then five 2TB drives failing simultaneously. Plus, it's safer to spread your data out across multiple drives, so if one fails you haven't lost everything.

Tnx for the video but I still have a question. Right now my sample packs and finished projects are saved on 1 external hard drive. If something would happen to this drive I would lose all my samples etc. My plan was to buy a second hard drive and Carbon Copy Cloner to make it back up automatically. My question is, will Logic Pro X find those samples on the copied drive just as it would on the original drive? Stated differently, will Logic Pro X see the difference between the 2 drives or does it treed the back up drive like the original because it's an exact copy of this original drive? Because if that's not the case I have to manually add all the files again to the drum kits I made in the EXS24. I also won't be able to open a project unless I manually select all the sounds used in that project. Is their somebody in the comments who has an answer on this question?

@BeatsbyVanity 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeroen, Firstly, I’d recommend not buying a second hand drive. Drives only have a certain number of read/write cycles before they die and you won’t know the condition for certain nor the stress that has been applied before buying. Drives are boring purchases but they are absolutely one of the most valuable investments you’ll ever make. If you make an exact duplicate of the drive using CCC, yes, Logic will see no difference between the two drives. But if they’re both connected simultaneously, it will default to one of them. Best to change the name on the old drive, after you’ve backed up if you want the new drive to become your working drive. I’d like to dig into your system a little more to ensure you don’t make the mistake I did. How are you approaching backing up your data? You could just get a new drive, copy the data from wherever it currently lives onto this new drive and perform a manual backup each week to keep it synced. I recommend manual as if something gets corrupted, or deleted, the automatic system in place won’t copy it over to the backup or delete the same file from the backup to keep is synced. Obviously there’s the downside of needing to do it each week and checking for corruption/deletion.

BeatsbyVanityTV Tnx for the reply! I was not my plan to buy a second hand drive :) Now I know that Logic won’t see the difference I’m probably going to buy an external SSD and use this as my main drive for music production. I’m using Time Machine for years now and I never had a problem with corrupted files. But since my sample library only lives on my extarnal drive I’m looking for a solution to back this one up as well. Tnx!

Im pretty new to backing up and all that, so would it be as simple as copy pasting all my ableton projects to my external hd, or would i have to do some extra stuff such as, collect all and save. I wont be using the files backed up to my hard drive they will be there just in case something happens to my main drive. If u have any tips it will be much appreciated!!

how did u manage to save data from a dead hard drive? My portable hard drive just died and lost all my project files and sound library. is there any way I can recover that data?
@BeatsbyVanity
@BeatsbyVanity 5 жыл бұрын
I didn’t in this instance, the data was lost. You can try software such as Disk Drill to find any data that may be recoverable. Apart from that, though, there isn't much you can do if the drive is truly dead. I'd hold onto it though, I've had drives that have been 'ticking', not showing up when connected that I have since managed to get data off.

Not from the drive I spoke of in this video, but I have in a more recent instance. You have to do a deep scan and leave it for 24 hours or so depending on your drive size. But that’s only if you’re able to connect it to a computer.

Probably with a hub/docking station. I have a Caldigit TS3+ and the thing has six USB 3.1 5Gbs inputs (4 USB-A and 1 USB-C), and one USB 3.2 10 Gbs input. But even if you only have a few inputs available, all the HDDs can be docked into one enclosure with a single connecting cable.
