Do you keep Bamboo Shrimp? If yes, what tank mates do you keep with them?

I've kept bamboo shrimp with a betta before, really just depends on your betta's personality, if your betta is calm it will ignore your shrimp but if it's aggressive/really active it will keep attacking your shrimp.

Your shrimp was probably getting ready to molt that is what bamboo shrimp do they hide for a couple and or a few days before molting I put mine into my tank a month and a few days ago and it hid behind the rock for 2 days and whilst it was accumulating it didn’t move at all then it started moving about and started hiding again 2 days ago so it will likely molt tonight or within a day

I really want to get some bamboo shrimp. I've got hundreds of (blue) neocaradina and a few Amano's and love them, but I've never found bamboos in a store. I'm also Canadian (Calgary) and am curious: where did you get yours? I'm just about to set up a few more tanks, and am very eager to try breeding my Amano's and (hopefully) Bamboo as well. I don't normally breed commercially, but I have some Cunning Plans for how to breed the brackish-larva shrimp, and given how basically nobody does that, I could actually recoup some of the (absolutely absurd) amount I've spent at the LFS. Love your content!

Looks like you've got a very interesting breeding project coming up! Keep me updated on your progress. As for my shrimp, I get my Bamboo Shrimp from two places here in Ontario (Finatics Aquarium and Shrimp Fever). There's also Planted Aquaria but I've never purchased Bamboo Shrimp from them before. Check with Shrimp Fever and Planted Aquaria to see if they ship shrimp within Canada.

This is a lovely video and full of detail. Do the Amaro yamato shrimp reproduce in fresh water, just their young cant survive? Is that how the Bamboo shrimp can feed on the tiny larvae (sorry if l have used the wrong terminology). I have a 110 litre tank that l have set up, would love to eventually put in a couple of Bamboo shrimps, l will get a few yamato shrimp to help the tank mature before the Bamboo shrimp come on board. Your videos are very inspiring, the scenes of your tanks are stunning.❤

Thank you for the kind words ❤️ Yes, Amanos can mate and give birth in freshwater but unlike Neocaridina Shrimp that give birth to baby shrimp, Amanos and even Bamboo Shrimp give birth to larvae and that larvae require brackish water to survive. In freshwater, the larvae will live for about a week before they start dying off.

I started with 2 Bamboo shrimp., add 4 more, about 1 year ago. Tank makes on start, Blue Navy Shrimp 30, 3 Vampire shrimp, Microcraps 20, Almano Shrimp 10, Hillsream Loaches 1, Whiptail Catfish 1, Group Glass Bloodfin Tetra 7. I lost one Bamboo shrimp, possibly no enough stream flow in water when try fit this a long time. I change all to time my filters until find food one for Bamboo shrimp (combine Big sponge filter with Aquael 1000, 2000 or Mini, depance tank size) Also where flow goes is important. These shimps dont want spend time in bottom of tank all to time,. Have a plants where leaf move and can take strong flow and hold shrimps weight in flowing water. Tank got huge iron wood, where is big tunnels. So Shrimps can disappear for month. Thats why u better buy many, or u wont see them much. They require own hiding place and time, but not that much as vampire shrimps. Now after one year i lose: Whiptail Catfish. Because cant put that much food there than this one needs or water values not going to be good for this shrimp of there is that much food. Lose all Microcraps. They possibly just not live long and they fear other biger tankmates, so they wont get enough food. Next Microcrap tank with be own tank just for them. Blue navy shrimp i got maybe 400 there now, it depence how much i put food there. My Vampire shirmps has change them skin color looks same as Bamboo shrimp. I cant know anymore always who is bamboo shrimp and who vampire. Vampires who was Blue and white when i buy them. Now they are same color with bamboo shrimp, but no line on top. I use black bottom material what is for shrimp tank. No sand... or is but it fell on bottom. No stones first, but add small dragonstones later to hold flat stones for Hillstream Loache. Seems bamboo shrimps like to eat food from flat stone before bottom. Lot of floating plants keep water parameters for shrimp. Need remove handful of floating plants weekly it basicly clean possibly toxins from water same time. I dont make much big water changes. Mostly 2% water change in week. So no one big change at the once. Example change some litter water when remove floating plants. Moss in important (got 3 firrefents types), and Bamboo shrimp like to play moss balls. No small plants on bottom. Only long one what grow from bottom and reach on surface, but now go over surface. Got also some cups aquarium sides, where grow small plants and moss they can be places too for bamboo shrimp to grap food from flow. Feed daily before dark once. many kind of shrimp foods, always green food and some kind of food where is miners for them. And some kind of tetra food. Feed sometimes frozen food, like Frozen artemia, frozen microworms, defnia (crash them well and mix on waterflow). Important to have dimmer light. Do not use bright light or never 100% power of it. It will kill them specially if you dont have floating plants cover on surface. They wont eat if too much fake light. Nature light Balboo shrimp not avoid, but sure i dont use direct sunlight like no one should. Now i looking help how i gonna breed them. My Bamboo females got manytimes a lot eggs under them. Dont know should i move eggy shimp into brackish water tank. I fear that female wont survive from that parameters change and dont want lose these now at least Year old Bamboo or Vampire shrimps.

Take a look at my videos of Bamboo and Vampire Shrimp as it's pretty easy to tell the difference based on how they look. Also breeding these shrimp is very hard but if you refer to my AMANO SHRIMP care guide video, there is a section on breeding them that you can try and apply to your Bamboos. It may take several attempts before you see success. Thai Mirco Crabs live for about a year and I have a few as well in my Orange Pumpkin Shrimp Tank and most of the time they hide.

@shrimplycanadian
@shrimplycanadian 4 ай бұрын
These shrimp are virtually impossible to breed because their larvae need brackish water to survive in and then once they become baby shrimp, will need to make the switch to freshwater. There are people who have probably done this but you'll have to search Google as getting the right level of salinity is important and also knowing when to switch them from brackish water to freshwater.

FYI: Last year, we had a big power shortage here in Montreal, Canada. At my house it lasted 4 days. I wasn't equipped to keep my tank warm. Over those four days, the water temperature just kept getting lower a lower. It went from a normal 26c (78.8f) to a brutal 12c degrees (53.6F), When the power came back and the water slowly warmed up, I noticed my male bamboo was alive but upside down, he couldn't stay up side up even after I gave him some help. I suppose his air bladder was shut. I had to euthanize him. My female bamboo survived a year after that. Anyways, this was my experience,…

Can these help clear green water? All my parameters are in line for these guys, but for some reason which no one has been able to figure out, everyone who tries to start a tank where I live ends up with green water to one degree or another. We are told it is just a diatomaceous algae bloom, that it's nothing to worry about, and that you can safely drink the water. We tell the city that it's not a matter of whether we can drink the water, it's a matter of if we can keep our aquariums clear, and they just say that it's beyond them, and not something that concerns them. So, are bamboo shrimp critters who could help get rid of the greenish micro-organisms which we end up seeing within a few days after putting our water out to dechlorinate?
@shrimplycanadian
@shrimplycanadian 3 ай бұрын
If you have green water (probably phytoplankton), these shrimp wont be able to clear it. To some degree they will feed on any floating algae particles but algae multiplies even faster. Couple of things you can try... (1) Have you tried darkening out your tank (complete blackout)? Algae is caused due to excess light. Try a complete darkout for 3 to 4 days and the algae shouldn't be able to survive. (2) There's polishing filter pads (amzn.to/3SaNnlS) which can help remove the smallest of particles but you need a few pieces on hand to continue switching out the pads as they clog. Polishing pads may also be your best bet at ridding this green tint. (3) Last of all is chemical warfare like API Algaefix. I have never used the product as I've never experienced a bloom to the degree you are mentioning so I have no idea how it may affect the inhabitants of your tank. You will need to do your research accordingly and decide. Here is a link to an article I found on what I just mentioned: fishlab.com/green-aquarium-water/

@shrimplycanadian
@shrimplycanadian Ай бұрын
If it's newly added, it could be getting used to your water parameters and/or getting ready to molt as well due to all the changes it has gone through. You need to add a flow in your tank as you don't want these shrimp scavenging like other shrimp as they can damage their fans. They primarily get their food that's floating in the water column so powdered food always works best and ensure there is enough movement so that the food can get to them.
