I got an idea for how to do Metal Bass Microscope on KZbin without getting copystriked: Instead of putting the music examples in the videos, share a Spotify playlist and say things like “Listen to the riffs from 2:35 to 3:21 in Elimination”. Might be worth trying
@RodneyMcG4 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I thought of something like that, but i'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be on a phone having to switch. It's worth considering though

Potential idea for a segment on metal bass Monday. What are the advantages of dropping the lowest string by a while step, for example drop D on a 4 string or drop A on a 5 string? I’ve tried this out but it makes scale shapes harder because the notes are now not where I’m used to them being lol

for me, the ultimate pedalboard for bass, would be some EQ on some particular frequencies, MAYBE some compression and, or not, depends. pedal of amp sim or just amp. i'm using Line6 Z3 Live on stage so every reverb/chorus things i have is on output for whole band. even when i played in power metal band i really appreciated clean sound over distorted one. that why my 'perfect pedalboard' would be like i've described :D

Octave Slitting loos like a great exercise to learn the neck. Start on the G sting and end on the B string on the same 3 notes. And then back up. Also a great way to move up the neck repeating the same 3 or 5 notes ending on the same string a hole octave up from where started.

I got a bass Hyper Drive too! It's a really great pedal. I love the many tones I can get out of it. Sadly it didn't sell very well. I learned blurr tapping from Billy Sheehan. So I already had that in my bag of tricks. I love the octave skipping! That's a new one! I'm gonna use that!

Hammer smashed like button ! We already reached MBM Ep. 20 ! Time goes by so freaking fast . Nice walkthrough of your pedalboard, i would like to ask you about your power supply, sorry if you mentioned something and i missed it. My pedalboard goes something like Tuner-distortion- preamp, and i am wondering if its actually worth upgrading from a 1700mA power supply and daisy chain, to a proper power supply with isolated and regulated outputs. Can you share a little bit of your insight on this subject ? Thank you Uncle Rodney .

Time does fly when you're shredding! I am actually replacing my pedalboard supply with a AMT Fulcrum PS-518V. I wanted to have it in the episode, but the COVID shipping restrictions has kept it on the slow track getting to me from Russia. For me, the more clean power, the better!

Hell yeah, I'm gonna play around with that run when I get home. My pedal board is pretty empty. I have Zoom B60 that I use for a tuner, then sansamp tech21 di, thats it for now. I'm looking into the digitec drop pedal, cause my guitarist can't seem to stay in one tuning for long, and bass strings aren't as cheap as guitar strings as you know. It's gonna be a while tho cause I just bought the SLS evil twin so the wife ain't gonna be to keen on more shit for my bass rig🤣🤣🤣🤣 Keep up the great content and info man🤘

Man epic shreddage. The distortion sounds cool on the bass but too much low end gets lost for me when the effect is applied, maybe if I played similar music it wouldn’t matter as much for deep lows.
@RodneyMcG3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't judge the tone too harshly, I just threw a plug-in on to demonstrate some things. If anything, I have to turn my Lowe's down as to not blow people out of the room when I dial in my usual sound! Thanks for checking it out!

I have a Geddy pedal arriving Wednesday. I was planning on placing it earlier in the chain, before my two Darkglass pedals, the idea being to create that nice deep low early in the chain so I can blend that into the Darkglass. I notice you have your Geddy stuff at the end. What are your thoughts on placement of these great Tech 21 preamp boxes? I’m new to the pedal board thing. Thank you!
@RodneyMcG4 жыл бұрын
I will actually route the Geddy so it's after the distortions and effects, but before the cab sim. I'm a big Tech21 fan. They haven't put out anything i wouldn't use. I do get some interesting results using a gain boost into the geddy. Adds a different color tot he distortion.
@chrispchrist80744 жыл бұрын
Rodney McG it’ll be fun to try it here and there in the chain, I’m so friggin excited, I’ve been studying up on some Rush of course. I read somebody say that the YYZ has an amp sim in it; they analyzed it somehow and the techy guy claimed the “roll off” of the frequency indicated there was an amp sim in the innards. What do you think? It’s supposedly the exact same stuff as in the rack 2112. Would Geddy have a fave amp sim in the 2112, since that’s all he’s using?
@RodneyMcG4 жыл бұрын
I happen to know that the circuit is all analog, so It think that guy may be blowing some squid ink!

I just want to know what all those on sounds like, it must be huge and filthy. On a side note your channel convinced me to give active bass pups another try, i got a p5ax from emg and it ain't bad at all. I've found that it stays cleaner somehow at the same volume, i take it its volume from the pickups preamp rather than the output from the pickup windings themselves which is different from the effect achieved by my favorite pup of all time the duncan spb-2 with its monstrous output but its a nice flavor to have on hand .
@RodneyMcG4 жыл бұрын
I could turn them all on, but it would lay waste to every guitarist on earth simultaneously. We need at least one ;). The biggest difference in the AX is the Alnico magnet. Much more content in the center mids, less of that aggressive upper mid spike that the original has with the ceramic magnet. The Duncan is a great choice too.
@stevenhirsekorn34444 жыл бұрын
@@RodneyMcG i noticed that difference with the p5ax immediately, i tried the originals a few years ago and that upper mid really grated at me because I hit the bass really hard so it emphasized the attack way too much where the alnico ones have so much more body. I like the steve Harris method of having a duller tone and using your hands to create the attack. Alnico pickups with high output generally tend to yield me the sounds im looking for in that regard.

As always awesome! Thank you for sharing some of your techniques very inspiring. I have only two questions not pertaining to this video video in particularly. 1ru endorsed by Schecter? 2 out of to basses which one is the best overall 1 apocalypse C5 or SLS Elite 5. Thanks in advance and keep rocking
@RodneyMcG4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tony. I am endorsed with schecter. I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but they are too different to be a comparison. The necks feel different and they sound different. It depends on your end sound. I use them both for different things. I would say however, I like the Apocalypse pickups more than the Fishmans.
