We have the same enclosed run (not as long), and we added large, dead tree limbs 2-3" (5-8 cm) wide hung 2-3' (60-91 cm) up using wire or reusable zip ties. We also have a large mirror that they admire themselves in at ground level. And don't forget adding a radio to play some music on a low volume, which also keeps predators away!

So ..classic FM or Absolute 80s on the radio? 😁

A lot of this "old" furniture was so much better made. Our dining table is solid oak. We can buy one like it for £30. You can't buy the wood for that!

Your enclosure looks like such an engaging and a happy safe place! Your chickens would say Thank You if they could.

Thanks so much 🙂. We hate it when they can't free range so it's important to us to make it as nice a place for them as we can!

Love the dust bath tire, such a good idea I think I'll set something like that up for my flock.

Another brilliant video - thank you! I love the shelter for the dust bath, its on my list of things to build next weekend. By the way, the Little Feed Company is in the next village to me (Devon) and I can confirm their blocks are excellent. Also a good range of seeds & vitamin tonics for the chooks 👍

Fantastic info. Again Thankyou. Might be dealing with an overcrowding issue.
@EnglishCountryLife Жыл бұрын
It certainly can lead to problems. We suspect that the birds feel that resources (space) are in short supply so they have to try harder to dominate

@@EnglishCountryLife more context is I am a first time chicken keeper, got given 2doz fertile eggs and about halfway through have got at least 20 fertile with development. Living in Fiji so it’s not hard to give away roosters to the local villages, but boredom busters until they are mature. That’s a godsend.
@EnglishCountryLife Жыл бұрын
@@troyh5955 That's a very good fertility rate!

@@EnglishCountryLife got them from a permaculture farm. They said 70%. I’ve candled at day 8. 1 cracked, 1 infertile, 2 maybe, 20 definate. But like your business model I’m hoping to cover feed bills at least, get hands on practical experience with broody hens and raising chickens naturally. (Using them to hatch quail eggs when I move back to Australia) on that note would love to see a video on your amazing Buffs possibly hatching a few quail eggs amongst a normal clutch.

Hi just like to thank you for these videos very well done - you did mention in one of them that you have made one on solar power pump and I wondered whether you have a video about setting up a garden fountain powered by solar or storage batteries

I notice you have a small ladder against the tree. Do the chicken use it?
@EnglishCountryLife Жыл бұрын
The Orpingtons do a bit - especially the chicks but the more energetic breeds like Legbars & Leghorns love it & climb the cherry tree

Have you ever given your girls a swing? I'm going to put a staw bale in with mine for the exact same reason that you have put chairs in.
@EnglishCountryLife Жыл бұрын
We did improvise a swing a few years ago. The hens all ignored it. Two young cockerels sat on it. Once.
