Thank you for this! I've been keeping chickens for quite a few years now, however just started gardening this year. I just ordered 2 new flocks to be my garden preppers that we plan to enclose (split down the middle) for 2 new gardening spaces to the side of our current barn (and won't need a chicken tractor and its cost because they'll be cooped up in the barn stalls at night with a manure catcher underneath their roosts). I'm anxiously awaiting getting this new system up and running and so thankful we found your channel prior to getting deep into gardening!!

Justin, we had a similar screen to sift compost but what we did was suspended it from chains from a swing set style A-Frame and beam that allowed for us to shake it over a wheelbarrow. If you're going to do a large quantity next spring something like that would probably make the process easier.

Love your Chicken Yard. It is great idea. Works well for Chickens and Humans. Great Compost System for sure. I also like the one in the back with the Metal Carport. These systems work great from what I can tell. I always put Straw in my Chickens run in the winter. It's covered and the Girls love to scratch and lay in the straw. By end of winter Straw and Poo has been broken down so I put in Garden. Once in garden I add Nitrogen then water real good everyday for 3 days, then do every other day for 6 days, then do every 3 days 9 days. By then it's ready to be used for gardening. I add dirt on top of Straw and Poo afterwards before I plant also. I have great success with this method. I also use straw to help control weeds. I learn so much from your Videos. God Bless and Peace Be With You All ☮️🙏❣️

@deniserollick17464 жыл бұрын
You have frequently had trouble planting directly into gardens the chickens have been moved from. I have always been told, chicken manure needs to be composted at least 6 months. It is a "hot" manure. Do you know anything about this and do you think this has contributed to failure in the past when you have had to amend the soil after planting?
@theJustinRhodesShow4 жыл бұрын
I haven't had any problems actually. Well, maybe the yellowing, but it's minor and it's from lack of nitrogen.

Justin, are animals really being buried because of lack of buyers because of Cobid-19? How can we buy directly from farmers?
@theJustinRhodesShow4 жыл бұрын
Good question. It's definitely NOT from lack of buyers. There appears to be a bottle neck with the massive meat processing plants (not able to operate because of quarantine issues).

Nobody believes your farm doesn’t stink!! I’ve told them I swear by it lol
@theJustinRhodesShow4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it stinks. Like this morning in the Turkey's. Welp, we just change their "diaper" and add organic matter (wood shavings). So if you have stink you have mis management. Either you need to move the animals on (if in pasture or in the yard in a mobile system) or add organic matter (if they are in a static system).
