One thing that astonishes me about the letters, journals and writings of Civil War soldiers both northern and southern are the eloquence and beautifully descriptive vocabulary and phrases used. We think that everyone in the past was ignorant, yet these writing show that we , today are under educated and the truly ignorant and inarticulate ones. For all our conveniences you would think that would allow us ample time to educate ourselves and our children in the beautiful art of conversation and rhetoric. It’s long past time to revive the classical education.

Well articulated, however has crude as vocabulary has become its not from lack of education. Im those times there was no TV or Internet, video games or telephone. All's they had were books, poetry. We far outclass then in cosmology, biology, marine biology, ext. we are definitely not more ignorant just are talents rarely requires in this modern era the need for such elegant communication.
