Yeah, I basically didn't mention MaA cheese - its use has diminished quite a bit already compared to normal MaA countering - taking the counter system apart since the AI doesn't do it and that way of playing is likely to completely disappear with time! It's a fair point, but I was thinking that especially new players ought to know how the game is intended to work so that they are still golden once the cheese gets yeeted!

So, a bit of a warfare adjacent question. As a Tribal I like to raid while waiting for my troops to re-conscript after a war, so I usually set my marshal to Organize Levies. However, I've noticed when I summon my army on the map, the levies numbers at the top-right of the UI go from, for example, 500/1000 to 500/500 until I dismiss the armies on the map, then it goes back to 500/1000... I know troops heal themselves while on the map, but does your army growth cap kind of "snapshot freeze max capacity" when you summon them, and then unfreeze when you dismiss? Or are they constantly growing to your real max? Thanks!

I really like the war system in ck3, but I wish they would add an option to help your liege in a defensive war if said war results in you losing at least one title. I mean it just makes sense that if you stand to lose something you should be able to help stop someone taking it.

Idk if you can offer join war but i konw that you can help by fighting the enemy soldiers. If you start the battle liege wont get war score but the enemy army will be weakened. If liege starts the battle you can funnel your troops in to ensure his win. You cant siege enemy counties but you can lift sieges from your own. A little deeper on the impact of pursuit vs normal damage. Tl;dr: Damage wins you battles, damage+pursuit wins you wars (in most non-cheese scenarios). Also this is a great vid just follow it you'll be fine. Pursuit damage is nearly 6x more effective than main phase (normal) damage (deals 0.17 vs 0.03, troops have their toughness as health). Plus each troop killed during the pursuit phase is a guaranteed fatal casualty, compared to 20-30% chance of fatal in main phase I think (the rest are simply routed). This means unless you're fighting small armies you significantly outnumber/outclass, to finish battles in the early battle phase where they can't retreat, pursuit is incredibly valuable. It allows you to reduce a threat of large enemy stacks quickly, rather than chasing them around for ages or ignoring and letting them go segue your territory. The drawback is the pursuit phase only lasts several days compared to weeks or even months of the main phases, giving limited time to exploit those advantages. Your army needs to hold and rout all opponents troops before the retreat phase begins. Further, each point of screen the routing army has blocks 0.33 damage (in the pursuit phase only), meaning pursuit damage can be countered by the right troops in large enough quantity. Final point, in reality you won't need to worry about most of this. War and combat in CK3 is easy enough if you follow the video guidelines but it's fun to dive into mechanics more sometimes.
@rotciv14923 жыл бұрын
Another feature I trully love about this game's warfare system is the rol immersive realism. On the beginnings, on high Middle Ages, when population and development is scarce and you're(depending on which faction you begin with) little and poor, the wars are mostly right-claiming raids with some hundred men. You march and fight with your men tight together and always want to do your business and end these wars quick, because keeping your levies active takes a very serious toll on your scarce gold income and also leaves you exposed to the myriad of petty lords that could backstab you while your lands are undefended. But when the years and generations pass and the scale of everything gets bigger, you find yourself leading or participating in much longer wars with tens of thousands of men involved. And then you can't simply just pack your army together and advance like that. Or I mean, you can, but the supplies will eventually run low since each barony can only support a certain number of men. So the game forces you to actively divide the army to keep them well supplied. This comes with a lot of advantages, like covering more terrain allowing you to gain more vision, sieging more than 1 castle at the same time, protecting a neighboring sieging army with some terrain advantage and some other multitasking options. But, at the same time, it also weakens your army by dividing your numbers and resources, leaving them more exposed to flanks and surprise attacks far from the rest of the forces. And it is awesome. Because it gives a lot of room for defeat in detail, and prevents every big war to be decided by the frontal clash of two big armies; but instead there's a lot of back and forth, constant maneuvering between the contendants and constant striving to gain terrain advantage and hit lagged armies far away from their main host.

As someone who's invested (lost) days upon days in this game, my best advice is to pick your wars and that commander ability is always more important than commander traits, except for flexible leaer when you are on the offensive on an enemy fort, it can be one of the best perks if used correctly, in my opinion
@LevCallahan3 жыл бұрын
I'll point out something that may not have to do with winning battles, but'll help in pursuit. I've seen quite a few seasoned CK3 players on KZbin play through wars and constantly experience "army-chasing", where they're literally spending months of game time just chasing down armies that're running all around the map away from them, wasting valuable time. Here's what to do to typically avoid this: Watch the color of their movement arrow. The color is important to note, more specifically when it turns gray. If the arrow an enemy army has pointed to its destination is gray, that means it cannot change course to evade you-- its movement is locked. If close to the enemy, DO NOT have the game speed on high. Have it on low, and frequently pause to hover over the enemy army tab to check the amount of days it has to get to the next land section. This works wonders and you'll consistently catch armies within weeks rather than months when pursuing close-by armies, thereby lowering wartime (which is especially helpful if you have vassals who gain negative opinion of you the longer you're in an offensive war).

This guide is probably among the best on KZbin. If you're not interested in role playing though & just want to win wars, just have an army mostly comprised of siege weapons, use your female courtiers to recruit a knight with a siege warfare stat modifier & make him your commander, then when u enter a war hire mercenaries to protect the siege army. Especially early on in a 1066 start you'll take enemy castles three times faster than your enemies can, and sieges especially when u take valuable prisoners win wars like 95 percent of the time in this game. Just remember to run away if your enemy sends a huge army to dislodge one of your sieges, eventually they will give up and go back to trying to siege down your castles. Happy crusading!

This video avoids some of the macro level of warfare - attrition. Defeating the enemy army doesn't permanently reduce their forces. They will regain those men, unless they are bankrupt. Thus this creates additional game states. 1) Both sides can afford to maintain their armies through the losses. Result: Like in this video, the better commander/army will win. 2) One side can afford to maintain their armies, the other cannot. Result: Against larger numbers, it's possible for the weaker army to win through attrition. I've defeated many powerful empire by charging a small elite force of mostly men-at-arms (80+%) at the enemy over and over again. This is best when they are on your territory and cannot reinforce. Even though you lose each fight, you can whittle away at their numbers until you can win. 3) Both sides cannot afford to maintain their armies. One big fight can win this war, but also a series of smaller advantageous losses can also nullify the enemy's ability to siege you down. Against a larger force, a few well selected defensive battles and careful use of allowing the enemy to siege your stuff down 75% of the way and suffer casualties, then forcing them to draw away to defend something else , can allow you to break the enemy down over time.

@arandombard11973 жыл бұрын
@@akiamini4006 Yeah Men at Arms can be fully reinforced again within a year as long as you have the gold, while levies take much longer to recover. @BrutusAlbion3 жыл бұрын

If you've got some noodly male courtiers hanging around that would make really terrible knights, you might still be able to find them a spouse with a high prowess - especially if they're part of a dynasty (doesn't even have to be a landed dynasty, just having one at all makes finding strong spouses easier.)

In my game i almost unite Africa, the bizantyne empire had a portion of Africa that i needed to take, my religion has the belicist thing and i think that is why i can declare wars against everyone. So i declared a war against them for a Kingdom , they had a pretty shitty emperor, their army was similar to mine in numbers. So the territory i started to fight for was actually out of Africa but It was a really big Kingdom. Instead of conquering that place i went for the territory at Africa and started to siege, there were like 10 counties from him at Africa. He was conquering another portions of land at Africa but stopped, probably because of resources or because he wanted to defend the counties i was conquering, i was conquering around 6 at the same time, so he started march against my armies and i just left 3 counties, the others were about to end the siege. I was in different counties because of the resources, fortunately on conquered counties, so i was increasing the resources. I gathered everyone when he was close and a small army of 3000 men was behind them, the main army ran away after i united all my soldiers. So i went straight for his 3000 army and destroyed it, my character had around 30 of martial and a lot of advantage un battles, the advantage number sometimes was around 45, pretty understandable since my character Is a genius and has a wife pretty good at martial. Once his army was torn apart i followed the main one and killed a portion of them, followed them again and dos the same. So now i had to go for the rest of the counties, so i started to move armies. I placed them and started conquering, i was leaving my army to rest and gather resources in the meantime so the emperor actually made an alliance with the British Empire or whatever the name they had and i was like at 50% of war score but It was reduced because i was not in control of the territory that i was fighting for,( remember that i declared war for a Kingdom at another place) so i did not mind about the alliance, because they had 12k of soldiers and were really far, my enemy had like 3 knights because i destroyed his army. But then the Pope anounced a goddam Crusade for Jerusalem ( i am the holder of Jerusalem) and only had like 16 months. So i gathered my main army and went to his capital and made a very serious mistake, i disbanded the armys that have just conquered counties south of my position because i got nervous. The problem was when i arrived at the capital and found out that it will take 6 years to be taken. Because i left the siege men at arms, so i decided to conquer different places but all of them were hard and at the end i found a place that you could take in like 4 months and with everything that happened i ended the war with 4 months left to the Crusade. I took a big part of the Empire+ the portion of Africa that i conquered because a war for a kingdom allows It. I was planning to take the capital but i made the mistake of not taking siege men at arms. So anyway, i had to give lands to vassals and all that but the great holy war was about to start (there were 70,000 catholics against 40,000 of the other faith, ( mine is Akom but i changed the faith early on with belicist) the kingdom of Jerusalem territory is mine for a portion and the rest is of another emperor, he Is of another faith but we still were allies, pretty cool. So once the war started, i started to gather all of my men at Jerusalem, the distance between Jerusalem and my capital is enourmous, the catholics were at North Africa conquering because it Is my territory. So the months passed and no army stepped into Jerusalem, so we started to win war score because of having control over the disputed territory they conquered a little bit of counties (like 2 or 3) and once 15 months passed my army was gathered, fortunately the army does not spend resources while is gathering, so i took advantage of that. Since nobody came i decided to do a very risky plan. I left Jerusalem with my 20k army and went to Rome, when i was close i passed next to a 30k army but i was at sea, so it did not matter, i arrived to Rome and nobody was there, now they finally went to Jerusalem so i had to be kick since the Score advantage was of like 30 because se were in control of the disputed territory, that could end quickly if they take Jerusalem, so i started to siege rome and was going to take 7 months, so i took a risk and made an assault, i went from 18k to 14k but i captured Rome, the pope was not captured, since i had another 2k on another county, i went to assist that group, and before that could happen, the Score reached 90 because they still havent conquered Jerusalem, but they almost did, and i have skill that gives a +10 when imposing demands or accept peace, so i immediatly imposed demands, the pope agreed and i won the Great Holy war, at the end i had like 700 gold from the 3500 that i had when i started the war against the Bizantyne Empire, he actually ended in -300 or something ( last Time i checked he was on a war to take him out of the throne, so the next ruler Is not shitty. Unfortunately, winning the Holy war being a defender did not give any gold, i had a lot of fame and piety but not the gold. So i recovered some months and declared a war against the pope for being an ashole, took Rome and its duchy and now he hates me. Having belicist Is an exploit in this game, you can declare wars on anything without having rights on the lands. Well, i am about to sleep, if you read all this you are awesome, sorry if something Is not undertsandable ( my main language Is spanish, so i probably made some mistakes).

An important note that was not mentioned is to be wary of waging holy wars especially if you are a catholic faction going against a muslim one. Most muslim factions have the Clan government system and gain more levies based on their vassals opinions. Upon starting a holy war with them, i believe they gain a +40 opinion from their vassals as they are fighting “infidels” and usually get a large boost in levy numbers. Learned this the hard way in my Benevento campaign!

OPB I've been subbed for about a year at this point and I am honestly so angry at your sub count. HOW DOES EVERYONE NOT APPRECIATE YOU AS MUCH AS I DO?

You can just ignore CK3's counter system. Mono MaA armies with their respective upgraded building stacking (I.E. buildings that buff HI due VV), is still the best strategy (outside game breaking strategies with Knights whereby 20 knights at 700% efficacy destroy 50k AI stacks). VV is still best unit, but I also like Huscarls as Anglo-Saxons.

Have been plying hoi, eu and (more recently) imperator for years and was never interested in CK. Just acquired it and I’m lost in the sauce lol This is a great video

Inside you, there are two wolves One tells you to build a balanced army composing of many different types of soldiers There other tells you to stack 30 knights with 600% efficiency

mercenaries are absolutely op you can rally them instantly anywhere after sending them home anywhere else. I was able to win a civil war when I started out numbered 20k to 50k without losing many men.

Hi pal, great guide as usual. Are you planning on doing any playthrough series again any time soon?

As for knights, you can also task your marshal to increase their prowess and find new powerful knights and generals.

Completely new to KC3, my girl recommended I check it out and have been trying super hard to get into it, however even after doing the tutorials there's still a lot unexplained! I must say, if anybody knows any other useful tip or trick videos or channels too please let me know! Cause I'm getting stomped in wars at the moment and usually I'm a brutal player in these kinds of games 😂

I outnumbered an enemy force 3 to 1 but my entire army got annihilated and my king was killed with only like 6 casualties on the other side and so I decided to look into this whole "CK3 War mechanics" thing

You should have talked about army Quality. Not only do numbers count but also a quality of those troops. A high quality army can easily punch above their weight in numbers.

Do you have any idea if there will be a DLC for a different timeline other than 867 and 1066?

I got no clue, BUT there are some incredibly high quality mods in the works! Kingdom of Heaven brings you into the year 1184 and Rise of the Normans brings you to the year 911! Both kids are looking very good!
@Valanathos3 жыл бұрын
I'd rely on mods first and foremost. The devs said they didn't plan on doing lots of start dates with CK3 as it creates a lot of extra maintenance with each patch/DLC
@alphagamer95053 жыл бұрын
@@OneProudBavarian I hope paradox does 1204 start date
@salimelmouaffaq13513 жыл бұрын
there is a mod called "bookmarks+" on th workshop with a lot of start dates from ck2 (they also changed the current start dates to make it more accurate in some places like the low countries and added some cultures here and there)

There are some things you can do to still win a hopeless war: 1) Keep your ruler save by giving him command over a few troops and send them on the ocean or far away 2) Evacuate your son by giving him away to be raised by another ruler 3) Your land will always support you while the enemy need to restock its supply. Attack them when they are low. 4) Send roughly double the number of troops of a important Garnison of the enemy to it. Make sure to have siege engines since you need to be quick. A Commander with siege bonus can help. 5) Defend your primary target and use rivers and mountains for defense! 6) You have a underaged girl? Great - marry her to the ugliest dude around with the strongest army, then call him into the war for free. Afterwards he can always have a unfortunate accident. 7) If you lose a battle, do not give up! Set your marshal to gather troops! Your enemy can not regrow his numbers while in your land. 8) If this still did not help (and his security is to tough to murder him) consider making peace. There is always a way for revenge later!

i think im just gunna spam armoured horseman then use my heavy infantry that counter archers if i play right, as long as i don't attack in hills, mountains, or during winter, i should be able to decimate everyone

Thank you for the much needed guide 😊 a stupid question from a noob: you said that i should give land to vassals that are loyal, is it the color of the characters opinion of me that determans if they are loyal, or is it a symbol somewhere else?
