One good thing about working on a big boat project is that you also end up with lots of cool tools to work on your shed! Thanks for your videos. Always fun to watch.

Gemma, this is hardly a "crappy shed". It is a LOT better than the one I built. The sooner you're out of the unit the better. Thos Halfords tool chests are fantastic. I've got the grey ones for my modular tray sets. It helps keep all my tools organized.

A coat of thinned epoxy will keep your work tops from absorbing grease, oil and diesel, while making clean up easier. A few holes drilled along the back will provide storage for frequently used screw drivers and chisels. Adding several hooks along the wall above the work tops will help keep 'stationary' tool wires up out of the way and safe from harm. I'm retired now and don't do as much work in my much smaller shop, but all these ideas made things a bit easier... Good job! 😊👍✌

Simon - Major safety tip here for using a table saw. Always have the blade height just barely above the top of the piece being cut. That way if you slip and fall on the blade for some reason while cutting, you don't end up horribly maimed or dead. What you were doing there is a big no go and proper saw blade height is one of the first things taught to new woodworkers. Keep safe.
@geoffroberts4267Ай бұрын
I have to agree with your comment on workshop safety.. I cringe every time I see Jenna's long hair hanging down only inches away from the saw blade.60 years ago when woodwork and metalwork were taught at school you had to place your tie inside your shirt.

WD-40 is useful for removing labels. It softens the glue. I use it to remove the remnants of Pressure Sensitive Adhesive when I need to replace e.g., my 12in sanding disc. There are specific label removing products, but most folks have a can of WD-40 around.

You guys theme song should be found a jb by the Talking Heads; [Verse 1] "Damn that television, what a bad picture" "Don't get upset, it's not a major disaster" "There's nothing on tonight," he said, "I don't know what's the matter" "Nothing's ever on," she said, "So I don't know why you bother" [Verse 2] We've heard this little scene, we've heard it many times People fighting over little things and wasting precious time They might be better off, I think, the way it seems to me Making up their own shows, which might be better than TV 😀

Your shed looks very nice and the added benches add to that great look. You may want to seal the tops of the OSB to help keep stains at bay. But it looks like a nice place to build whatever you two need now... Thumbs Up!

Hi Simon and Gemma ,only 20 odd minutes to do that job!! The 'other half: wonders if she can hire you to do our kitchen!!! Do you draw these projects out first so as to get an idea of quantities and layouts , or is it off the cuff. Very impressed with the appearance and finish and like the plastic bins rather than doors. That shed is very evenly lit too, and well done - back to the boats!

I made my rolling tool cabins with 18mm OSB for the carcass and 11mm OSB for the drawers. Drawer fronts are plywood. The case sides are covered with off cuts of commercial banner material. It’s really solid and its utility look suits the purpose. Edit. OSB won’t delaminate like any affordable plywood does. But the edges will crumble. I screwed 20mm hardwood edge to the 18mm OSB front edges. The 2mm stand-off actually looks great. Probably better than a flush face.

Im thinking of doing French cleats on my shed walls, have you two heard of those? Love your shed build. Hoping i can get my floor painted before winter!
@davenaylor8076Ай бұрын
Did you cut the two wings of the OSB corner piece to the same length? Is so you will be able to flip it once the top surface is “used” and get another go with the underside on top. The other two end lengths could also be flipped. Two uses from the same board would fit well with your budget approach to this job.

when i did my latest workshop bench, I used 3/4" plywood for both the shelves and the bench top, with 3x2" timber to make the supports, I ended up with 2 3/4" ply layers as the bench top, but I do use a large cutting mat to protect the bench

I have seen folks use a boot polish on that wood you have for the worktop, slather it on and wipe off and colour is left in all the grains. Maybe a nice red to match the floor :) Then Gemma can " varnish the shed" time :)
@TheCNCDenАй бұрын
White spirit is brilliant at removing sticky residue. OSB looks good, probably a lot better than the MDF I went for that just soaks up an spill and starts to crumble.
@robina.jensen6114Ай бұрын
I have made work tables with OSB board. I have given the first a layer of epoxy resin and the second table a layer of polyester resin, I think the epoxy did the best since the polyester resin, due to the smell, continues to emit odors into the surroundings even days after it is finished.
@andrewmaiden3738Ай бұрын
Not really jealous of your shed but very envious. It is fantastic. I seem to recall you were planning on getting out of your old workshop as a cost saving exercise but looking at all of the equipment in that workshop do you think it will all fit in and still give you working room?
@jonathanhughes380Ай бұрын
You guys are doing a nice job on that shed build the only thing is you're making me cringe with that table saw blade so high it really should be no more than a few millimeters above the thickness of your stock. Obviously for safety reasons big reason how people lose fingers keep up the good work

Think you might regret the osb worktop. It's very slippy, doesn't hold together and gives the worst splinters. Maybe put a timber batton on the front edge, make sure you glue it though if you do. Love you guys stuff, been watching for a long time. Look forward to seeing you work in the shed workshop

@dcallan812Ай бұрын
Most of the time time you wont see the worktops, because they will be full of parts to go back on the boat, so not much point going for oak butchers block you can always sand and paint them if you get board looking at them. 👍👍

Simon, how often where you told to "Sit Still" as a child. Dear lord you two never stop moving. Also, I imagine with your previous business you two have built more custom cabinets than you can remember (Customizing RVs), but this being a shed, is there any concern with how the Fiber Board will do with the humidity? I expected a cheap sealant on the open ends, but you two would know more than I would. Just curious.
