@Johnny Appleseed If you mean British boot companies there are a lot. Loake Burford is a good lower priced option and available < £200 if you shop around. Barker's are another brand, Cheaney are a little higher quality and their Tweed boot comes in a number of different soles and colours, higher still there are Trickers (frequently available 40% off) and Crockett & Jones (hardly ever discounted). Grenson have several ranges and their Grenson Two range is made in India. Their more expensive Grenson One and Grenson Zero lines look to be well made. Grenson are more fashion forward than some brands.

I have a pair of Stow boots (blue), three pairs of Bourton shoes (green, brown and red) and still want (don't need) another pair. These are fantastic, easy to wear in, look great dressed up or down, city or country; for this genre I will not buy any other brand. The quality, attention to detail and style is the pinnacle of English brogue. I look after them so they will probably outlive me! When stores reopen, if you are in the vicinity of Jermyn Street you must visit their shop. As an aside I have no connection with Trickers, I'm just a customer/fan.
@DevonReviewer4 жыл бұрын
Very pleased with them and I agree, these are what Brogues are all about! I miss trips to London, I was reading about the bespoke lasting etc but at £2500+ for the first pair you need deep pockets, albeit probably cheap by Jermyn Street standards, John Lobb etc! My wife has been coveting some of their red brogues for a long time too!

Just purchased my first pair of Tricker's - Stow in Acorn Muflone. As I already own 2 pairs of Grenson Fred Boots and a pair of Grenson Stanley brogues, I opted for the Acorn Muflone over the Acorn Antique as the Grenson Tan colour way is so similar. The Acorn Muflone grained leather looks stunning and it feels already broken in straight out of the box. Quality of the Tricker's is a step up from Grenson. I purchased these from Herrings for £435 which is a decent saving over the RPP!

Trickers sizing is very standard and with the Marlow, which is a wider 6 fitting shoe, is similar to a E width in US. But the UK length has always been 1 size less than one’s US sizing. Very comfortable footbed and the lining is very good too. Alden Indies are overrated. If more Americans bought British or Spanish made shoes they’d soon realize Alden product quality is equal or under Cheaney while charging the same amount as Crockett Jones benchgrade. Nowadays, even Berwick 1707 for Edward and James in pediwear makes shoes at better higher quality than Allen Edmonds. So, customers in Europe definitely have access to better wares. .

Hi, Those are what Trickers call a 6 fitting (wide). 5 is standard and classed as fairly wide. C Shade colour needs a thicker hide to sustain the fairly matt colour so they actually use sustainable sourced bulls hide which is why it’s slightly thicker than standard calf. Nice pair and kind of Herrings to hook you up.

What I would be careful when buying Trickers, is that most of their boots come without the inner lining on the tongue. I consider that to be bad design and long term, it should create a weak spot in the construction of the boot. They do have however boots fully inner lined.

Regarding price, we are conditioned to crappy Chinese made shoes for $100 or less. Most any man can afford a $500 pair of boots with even the slightest amount of discipline in saving his money, and then have boots that will last a good portion of his life. They only get expensive when you realize that one (or two, or three) pair isn't enough 😉

Honestly there are probably another 5 really good brands to keep an eye on, there are also a couple of decent tanneries in Indonesia so it’s all sourced locally. My only reservation, which is why I often buy UK, Japan or USA made is what the conditions are like for workers. I am not sure on this one, but for about £200-300 you can have a hand stitched, hand made bespoke boot made. That would be upwards of £1k in any of the aforementioned.

@DevonReviewer4 жыл бұрын
Well it had to happen some day! The brogue's association with outdoors is very historic, in the 1800's apparently the holes used to go all the way through to allow water to drain out of your boot..not sure if they looked anything like a modern brogue pattern.. given that the name brogue is derived from Irish and Scottish dialects and simply means "shoe" I guess it was simply any show with holes.
