I started my tanking experience with watching bad and sometimes good Tanks in dungeons, watched them and thought about how I would do it. Next step for me was tanking PUGs and improving my mechs knowledge. Then I got into a dungeon team in which we started with vWGT and vICP and worked down the vDLC dungeon list, doing no-death, speed and hardmode in all of them (still working on some of them). After I tanked vDLC dungeons for around 2 months I started tanking vCrags and their hardmodes and now after around 7 months of tanking I only miss a vSS clear. (and of course a lot of the challenge runs in most of the trials) Tanking is really nothing you just jump on and do, in my mind. It took me a lot of practice and failure to get where I am now and I am honestly proud of it and hope I can improve even more! My personal best thing I managed to pull off (in my eyes) was tanking vBRP without a Healer! I love your website man! It taught me a lot of stuff and accelerated my improvement as a Tank so much! So a big thank you from my side!

Started tanking this week, loving it so far. Great video man. Im having no issue with sustain or damage, its the crappy dps in some groups that make tanking boring. Always makes me switch back to my dps, to burn through dungeons. Blows my mind how many people that are 700 cp and suck. I just started this game and i can out dps people and im at 400 cp.

This guide is epic 🙌🏽 btw, as a tank in wow you *do* have these same concerns. Without proper use of damage mitigation abilities, the ability to do damage to assist in killing the boss before enrage timer, buffs, minding mechanics, etc there would be no progression. Maybe the base game dungeons you can (similar to eso’s overland normal dungeons) but not a chance in heroics (when content is newer) and especially not in mythics.

Being a good Tank is actually very difficult. Alot of dps and healers think it's easy but it really isn't. Sometimes you are under so much pressure, and the ones that crumble and die are the ones that just arnt there yet. When I tank I'm doing 10x more and concentrating more than when I DD that's my honest opinion

Great video! I've watched this and others multiple times. Really enjoy the wealth of information you provide. Question for you though, cause I can't seem to find the video again... You had mentioned that once you have taunt, debuff, buff, crowd control, etc. and you need a spammable. What do you recommend as a spammable skill for a tank?
@TheTankClub3 жыл бұрын
As a Tank you typically don't have a "spammable" skill typically with a few exceptions such as Igneous Shield on a DK, that is a skill you would want to use very often when you have nothing else that you need to cast because it gives so many various benefits.

Thanks very nice guide :) Could you do a guide on PUG tanking? Especially for the vet DLCs. PUGs are so diverse and you never know what to expect. What's the best way to prepare to maximize the chances of clearing the dungeon?(even with low dps) What gear should we bring etc?
@davidmcnay3 жыл бұрын
I focus on knowing the mechanics, staying alive and being able to buff myself so I can resurrect if I’m the last one standing. PUGs can be hard on resources as you often don’t get any, healing can be patchy and DPS low so I often find keeping it simple works best.

about bar space i am in a pickle! i use a typical tank setup: nord DK with encratis, yolna, along with either of these- PA, worm, or drake. 7 heavy, all sturdy, all tristat, atronach, 3 mag regen jewelry. i backbar PA and drake with the master SNB unless worm is used. when using worm and drake it is no issue slotting the necessary skills since those sets dont require an additional skill slotted. BUT.... bar space is an issue when i use powerful assault 😖 i need insight from a proffessional because i have no idea where to place vigor. i feel like none of my slotted skills can be dropped! front- pierce armor, heroic slash, stagger, GDB, iggy shield, barrier back- ice blockade, talons, chains, range taunt, balance, war horn i could drop stagger and replace it with vigor, but IMO a dk tank without stagger is not a very good dk tank. thats like a healer not using orbs! i would also like to backbar PA so i can keep the master SNB on front, but i can live without it if i have to. i do not depend on the master SNB for anything, its just a free heal while doing my job and no biggie if i had to give it up for slotting vigor on front. if i slot vigor in place of stagger would the spell/weapon damage bonus from PA offset the dps loss from not using stagger? (ideally i would want stagger and PA together for an even bigger group damage increase) if only frost staff still taunted on heavy attacks it would solve all my bar space problems LOL 😆😆😆

about sustain... Maybe I lost a part but I watched the whole video. when you block your stamina will not regenerate. and in some trials there is so less time to sustain and there is no heavy after heavy! cause you know voids, tautrs, collet mobs and so on if you go in a single tank. so only 2 classes can sustain in block! this is a very important thing! NECRO and WARDEN. and yeah as you said - EG monsterset. but I think in raids especially Vet your mates wants something better then EG on you! Encratis for example. and you also can sustain from a weapon glif. stamina or magica from light atack. sorry for a long message

The next to final boss in White Gold Tower has a blue flame attack that seems to always one shot through block. Also the final boss in Scalecaller Peak has that damn cone attack that comes from the dragon statues. I haven't found a way to block those either. Are either of these blockable?
@TheTankClub2 жыл бұрын
In White Gold Tower - The blue flame attack, you have to run quickly away from the boss for that. In Scalecaller - The cone you have to get out of it or it's a 1-shot. You Tank the boss next to the statue and then you can walk right out. If you stand at the back of the room then you can't get out of it.

Question about medium taunting, is it actually a taunt applied or is it just the crowd control that lasts for 2 seconds after you use the Ability? I suppose it could be a moot point because if they're stunned for 2 seconds they still can't hit anybody But I don't remember hearing anywhere that it was actually an aggro tool

Hey, no idea if this comment will be seen, but I was wondering as I plan on "migrating" from WOW to ESO and always played a tank in WOW, if it is recommended I start out as a melee dps until I get some experience with the dungeons? or if I should just jump into it as a tank? also are tanks any good at the start for solo content while I level up my character? or would it be better if I level up as dps and go tank later?
@TheTankClub2 жыл бұрын
Solo content would be hard as a Tank but early game you can definitely hybridize and do a bit of both. You can always run with a few different crafted gear options and do like melee DPS for solo then switch 1 gear set and start practicing Tank for group content.

hey man what you say about having shield and sowrd on front AND back bar on this patch? And why u dont use Defence Stand in your builds?
@TheTankClub3 жыл бұрын
Using Sword & Shield on both bars is a huge waste. You only use 2 skills from One Hand and Shield skill line so it's a bit pointless to do it. I don't use Defensive Stance unless I need it, I use that for vSS when I can reflect damage at the boss but otherwise its too expensive to use for most things and the passive benefits are not worth it for 1 bar slot.

Well its ok to tank as WW with tormentor not just for fun etc... WW tank has the same 215 weapon/spell buff like yolnahkriin as a passive... not wastet 5 pieces just for taunting and not just good for a laugh... the WW is actually a good tank... not the best but still very good... you have major breach, a really good selfheal, stam sustain while blocking by using the heal at 100% HP you will get 3000 stamina without a healer just use it twice to get the stamina, nice hot for you just for doing dmg with a dot skill, 5948 ressi as passive, a very strong synergy for dd's, you have nice dmg, you can use swarm mother for chaining, and even more... just check Outs tue skillline... if you can tank vet trials as a templer you can do it with a WW. I saw it and it was not bad.
@TheTankClub3 жыл бұрын
I play in a Werewolf Vet Trial Team as the Main Tank and the reality is they are not very good because you are limited a huge amount by being a Werewolf. Yes they 100% can Tank, and they can do a bunch of stuff and provide buffs and debuffs the same as any normal Tank, that does not mean they are good however. It's fun and it's possible but its not realistic for doing any reasonably organised group content, if you take Asylum Sanctorium as an example, it's impossible to taunt Saint Olms while it's protected by a Sphere, like Tormentor and Leap does nothing while it is protected so you can lose aggro of the boss, this wouldn't happen on a conventional Tank.

You really stress how important it is to try and improve, to strive to be better, not not just put 64 points into health and hold block, and I can't agree more. If there's one takeaway from this video that anyone watching *needs* to know, it's that trying is important. Maybe it's just me, but I rarely see people *want* to get good, people are so complacent with being low DPS, and are fine with not contributing buffs, etc. I guess FF14 was a thousand times worse when it comes to entitlement for being carried but ESO is the closest second I've seen. I guess it's because the pacing of the game, you can just spam random abilities and make it pretty far, you can get your monster helm, pre-trial bis and be fully decked out in leggos but not have to really try at all. I had two guilds in the past, and while we were semi-casual, we never got to a point where we were doing trials since I could never convince anyone to try, it's the "As long as I get my gear I don't give a damn how low my dps is" mentality. I ended up dissolving both guilds and quitting over it, I'm not saying I'm an amazing player but no one wanted to learn their class or try, they wanted to throw on heavy armor, put 30 points into mag/stam/health and start spamming spells without any weaving or rotation, just whatever looked pretty, most of the people in my guild touted themselves as "Hybrid" tank/healer/dps, only to provide trivial dps and result in me having to walk out of the dungeon, re-spec to tank/healer and walk back in just so we could finish a vet, ever single weekly meetup. Don't be the guy who doesn't try to push, don't be the guy who is complacent with holding block on his tank, always remember you're not just playing a single player game, you have a group of real people with you that have lives, and don't want to spend an entire Friday night doing that hard mode none of us need to do. Do what you can, but aim to do better. You'll fail, but failure makes you a stronger person. Don't be complacent with being terrible!
