I just finished my persian tiles blanket and am working on one more crochet blanket before I stop being such a damn CHICKEN and try knitting again (I knit 2 pairs of mittens and the entire lion folklore cardigan pattern, learned I've been twisting my stitches the entire time and then quit all crafting for six months) I've been flirting with ravelry-- I like the braidy loop sweater (other loops) or maybe the salvador sweater (johanna gehrisch)? Something reasonable. Something with cheap yarn, but not so cheap I won't wear it because it feels bad.

Sorry about your job, that is a huge bummer. I hope you are able to find something that works for you until grad school! As for color seasons, I also struggled! I have a neutral skin tone and I straddle summer and fall. I find colors from “soft summer” and “soft autumn” to work well for me (although no one will ever be able to tell me not to wear black, and I honestly wear whatever looks pretty to me). Maybe you could look into “dark autumn” and “dark winter” which are between true autumn and true winter :)
@byathreadknits8 күн бұрын
I think having a neutral skin tone makes it much harder to figure out your color season!! Same issue I’m having!! The general consensus is winter with a few fall suggestions so I’m thinking you’re on to something with taking colors from the in-betweens of fall and winter 🤔 but 1000% agree- wear as much black or whatever other colors as you want!!! Life is too short to base decisions on silly made up rules!!!

I agree where any colour you want. I love Mondim yarn. I just did a test knit for a all over lace cardigan using that and it knit up beautifully. Your mitts will be beautiful, I think you mentioned you are using sock yarn. If you don't catch the floats do you think you will hook your fingers or jewelry on them because the sock yarn wouldn't felt? I do not have experience knitting mitts so would love to hear what happens. Congratulations on going back to school. It is scary when you get laid off but honestly better things will come. I am guessing you are the same age as my daughter and she is finishing university and her hours were cut back to almost nothing. It is stressful but as cheesy and pollyanna as it sounds good things will come. Right now I am working on a pair of socks when I should be working on one of the two test knits I have going on. I just needed something mindless. I really enjoy your videos, thank you for taking the time to make them.
@byathreadknits8 күн бұрын
Very good point about the sock yarn not felting!! I’m wondering if I could go in after and tack down some of the longer floats if needed… much to think about! What’s your favorite mindless sock pattern? I’m wanting to make more socks this year!
@katherinehill39586 күн бұрын
@@byathreadknits Susan b Anderson has a blog, I think it was called how I knit my socks. I use that as my base. I add stitches or subtract stitches depending on who I am knitting the socks for. I haven’t done colourwork socks yet. I think that will be something I try in the near future.

In terms of color season, I'd check out either deep autumn or dark winter. Not sure though. It's generally about whether or not you feel that you can see your facial features complimented by a color, or whether a color washes you out or takes center stage (so your features are less important than the brightness of the color, etc.).
@byathreadknits9 күн бұрын

A really good mechanism I have found for keeping track of even # increases (like in the sophie scarf/hood/shawl family) is by linking stitch markers together (# of stitch markers should be number of rows between increases/2) with a green marker at the end. Every right side, move one marker closer to the green stitch marker. When you get to the green marker, you know you will increase/decrease on the next wrong side. I did this for my sophie hood and didn't lose track once!
