Temp sensor; you can also set it to CACU. This allows the controller to calculate the motor temp based on reading. Cant vouch how accurate it is but it's one barrier of protection. Throttle Dec Step: you want at max 224 for safety reasons. Setting it to 224 removes the time delay from when you cut throttle.
@FardriverTunesАй бұрын
4-CACU doesnt read motor temp it bases temp readings off of the controller MOSFET Temp.
@imho7250Ай бұрын
@@FardriverTunesthe original comment was edited so I don’t know if he was wrong the first time. Lol Yes, the CACU motor temperature simulation does use the controller mosfet temperature as a reference point, at least as starting temperature. The RatedPower setting is how to calibrate the thermal mass in the simulation. I made a video a year ago demonstrating it. Setting motor rated power to a lower value, decreases the thermal mass, so motor temperature gauge increases faster. What is NOT clear is whether it’s simply using MOSFET temperature change and multiplying it by some constant divided by RatedPower value, or if it uses amps as the variable for heat added. Since ratedPower has absolutely nothing to do with controller power output, I normally set it to about 50% of the motor’s claimed max continuous power, and it ensures the temperature indication and controller shutdown will be conservatively ahead of actual motor temperature.

Yes, for all direct drive hub motors, 224 accelerate and decelerate is correct. The 220 nonsense is just Ryan Goodyear’s signature so he can see who is using his tune. The purpose of slowing the deceleration ramp is mainly for drivetrains that have wind-up, such as a motor going to a differential and then an axle shaft out to the wheel, or something with lots of chain slop. Anyone who watches someone first learning a manual transmission and lurching the car as they get on and off the throttle can see why it needs to be dampened. Most cheap Chinese tricycles and golf carts don’t have proper dampening and will lurch like crazy. With the Fardriver you can tune it to be smooth even if you are trying to get it to buck like a bronco. Unlike some myths, neither one has to be faster than the other. It all depends on the drivetrain response to changes in throttle. But slowing it down a bit it allows the gear lash to be taken up and the axle torsion to wind up more gradually, and the parts will last much longer. But for direct drive hub motors we all want it to respond as fast as possible, and we can use ratios in speed to decrease starting torque if its too much.

Congratulations on the excellent work!! Your video helped me a lot! I would like to ask. On a nominal 72v, 60A battery and 3000w motor, what would be a safe setting for the "Maxlinecurr" and "MaxPhaseCurr" parameters?
@unrivaled.zzz11Ай бұрын
For some reason every content creator who speaks about the PID Parameters says "DO NOT TOUCH THESE!!" But they're really not scary settings. the only things you definitely do not want to touch are MOE and LM everything else is good to mess around with. it just adjusts how power and torque is applied in relation to the throttle motor and controller.
@AlexEscooterАй бұрын
Can you give a quick explanation of each of the other PID settings?
@SparkCycleworksАй бұрын
As a manufacturer, I can tell you the vast majority of headaches come from people messing with PID who have zero electrical knowledge.
@imho7250Ай бұрын
All Fardriver I tuned for hub motors needed LM tuned. 22 is too high, 16 was optimal. And the current control loop integral values can normally work better if decreased 1-2 sets below default. Proportional control settings have been blocked fo a long time. Before they were shown, but automatically adjust to 10x KI. Now they aren’t even showing whats going oh behind the scenes. Lol. The KO MOTO controller is a fardriver with some hardware changes, but it’s the same basic firmware. Anyone who knows fardriver will immediately recognize the PC app and see the mobile app is working with the same settings with a different GUI. Reading the KO-MOTO tuning guide does give additional insight into AN and LM.

There is a female 4 wire plug which fits the dongle but when I plug in and turn on the bike nothing happens-no light on the dongle and no Bluetooth on the app.

Why do you have your max rpm set to 850 when the 4T qsmotor 205 is 820rpm? Did you set it slughtly higher because you use field weakening?

I am confident this guy doesn't properly show how to tune the controller. For starters Pole Pairs MUST BE SET BY THE USER , Auto learn doesn't adjust pole pairs. I also get the sense you dont even know what half these settings truly do. Please reconsider this video, its not helping the community by giving wrongful tuning information. Not hating just concerned, i have tuned many fardrivers for businesses professionally.

At 13:40 I specifically state that the pole parts must be set and use the motor manufactures parameters. I’ve built nearly 400 bikes since 2019. This video is meant to be an approachable overview for the majority of casual riders who just want to make some basic changes. It’s not intended to go into heavy detail for manufacturers

Rated Speed and max speed are 2 different values .
@imho7250Ай бұрын
@@SparkCycleworks@13:58 “That Autolearn does a good job of detecting pole pairs”. No controller on the market can magically sense pole pairs. Every programable controller will ask you to enter the pole pairs value. If you don’t, it doesn’t care, it will still run perfectly fine, but the reported RPM, and speed signal will be off. I challenge you to set pole pairs to any value the Fardriver will accept this is not the correct value, run Autolearn as many times as you want, and it will NEVER change the pole pairs.
@imho7250Ай бұрын
@@FardriverTunesyes, Rated speed is measured during autolearn, changing it’s value manually doesn’t change the rated speed. And you CANNOT go to the manufacturers website to find the rated rpm because they offer many winding options. And QS never said the max recommended speed was 850 rpm unless it’s some ridiculous 5T winding. Setting rated speed and max speed to the same value does show a total cluelessness about whats going on. I mean, if 850 was the real rated rpm, just leave weak response at 7:none, and let back emf be your speed limit. Unless thats too fast, in which case you would set maxspeed to less than rated speed. It is unfortunate that so far there are ZERO videos showing how to do basic setup without lots of nonsense added. Even the self-proclaimed Fardriver God is on some KZbin videos spouting total nonsense, such as claiming the Fardriver does field weakening by increasing voltage. Thats some Flat Earther stuff right there. lol

Make sure your phone doesn’t belong in a museum. I was using the fardriver app just fine on my iPhone 6 for a while, and then after an update about a year ago, when it started asking for registration, the app would crash each time.
