I could hear you and took a deep breath. It really made me feel better. I'm going to try this strategy.

Amazing strategy. I'm looking forward to trying this out. As a SPED teacher I've found that I can avoid unwanted behavior by simply allowing and reminding my students to take 5 to 10 seconds just to take some deep breaths. That short amount of time can help a kiddo turn it around.

I like this because it doesn't require them to speak or make any noise in order to respond.

I tried it in my class yesterday and had two students (inclusion) acted like fish out of water gaping and gasping like fish out of water- totally ruined it for the rest of the class who were willing. They are usually very disruptive anyway, but it disrupted everything and set the tone for the beginning of class. How would you deal with this?

“Take a deep breath,” is superb, sound advice: I did it for years! It’s especially effective if, early in the term, students are introduced to meditative practices, e.g., before tests, first period, home room, etc. Keep up your helpful posts!
