We're taking a stroll down memory lane with a classic limo North American viewers should be familiar with. Our Spotlight is on this 1994 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series.
PRN T-Shirts now available! Check out our original designs here: teespring.com/stores/prn
Special thanks to Richard Auto in Drummondville Québec for allowing us to film this 1994 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series. If you're interested in this specific car or for more information about the dealer you can visit their website here: www.richardauto.ca/vehicule-u...
The Panther platform is one of Ford's longest-running and most successful platforms. It underpins the Crown Victoria, Town Car, Grand Marquis, and Marauder. A rear-wheel drive full-size sedan platform that ran from 1981 until 2011. This 1994 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series is a second generation Panther platform sedan from Ford's luxury Lincoln division. The Signature Series was the middle of three trims for 1994 and comes well equipped for the year. Our full tour and review goes over all the features, specifications, and info buyers and enthusiasts want to know about this generation Lincoln Town Car.
We go over the 4.6L Modular V8 engine, 4 speed automatic transmission, blue velour interior, what options were available depending on the trim, and what changes were made with the facelifts throughout the production run of this generation.
We then take the 1994 Lincoln Town Car on a comprehensive real-world road test to see how this vehicle performs, handles, and drives 26 years after it was built, and why someone might want to consider buying one of these cars today. We discuss how powerful the 4.6L Modular V8 is, what the dual exhaust option added to the Town Car, how the digital gauge cluster has held up over the decades, and the overall experience behind the wheel of what many consider to be the ultimate grandpa car.
After our road test we go over all the common problems with the second generation Lincoln Town Car and what issues you might experience if you're buying one of these or in the market to get one. Common problems like the rust spots, issues with the AOD-E transmission, Modular V8 problems, and what might fail on a car like this. Our Buyer's Guide helps to prepare potential buyers of a 1990's era Lincoln Town car to be better equipped when it comes time to buy one.

I was actually looking at these when I was looking for a nice daily driver a few years ago. Ended up getting my '94 Lexus LS400 instead, but still wouldn't mind having a Town Car at some point.

The LS 400 is definitely the way to have gone. This was a really enjoyable episode to produce, I'd be interested in one of these if they had low mileage, Cartier Series, and without any major issues.

My grandma had a 1993 Cartier edition. No one was to touch it, but every now and then, I would say the right thing at the right time and she would loan to me for the night. 😁 As Nile said, this car is definitely about memories.

I’ve always loved older cars and when I turned 15 I started looking for my first car. I found my white 94 Lincoln towncar and automatically knew I had to get it! I spent my whole life savings on it (which wasn’t much for a 15 year old lol) and brought it from California to Texas. As my first car I cannot say how much I love it! It rides so smooth and has so much personality! It is in almost perfect condition and I hope to keep it that way. I’m about to turn 18 now in February and it’s dealt with all my driving perfectly. As soon as I get enough money to get a cheap junk car I will stop using my Lincoln as a daily car to help preserve it and use it for weekends with the girls 😎

Love that blue interior and your shirt matches the color scheme 🤣 People who loved the body on frame car migrated to trucks. There are people who like rear wheel drive with torque instead of highly stressed 1.6 liter Hyundai/Kia engine for example. There is a feeling of owning the road these Lincoln’s and old GMS give that Nothing else gets you. Can we get a review of 88 or 89 town car? The Lincoln Lawyer types. I love those 😍

I am a road warrior in sales and drive a 94 Town Car. Nothing has this kind of room without going to a truck. I had to get rid of the rear air-ride because of rear end sag- that also forced me to replace the front springs. However, if you do your own work like I do- parts for these cars are really cheap. I don't think you mentioned the miles on that car; maybe why it is a slug- mine is not. Strictly because of age, I think I have replaced every window motor & electric door lock. Getting to the Blend Door on these requires a total dash pull (10 minutes on my old Escalade)- but You Tube videos can help with that. I get nothing but respect from people who see this beauty still out working every day.

I just bought a really nice condition 1994 and it's the same exterior colour scheme and wheels as this, except with grey leather interior. It feels much slower than my 2001 Town Car, but I kind of like it that way, makes me drive like a grandpa lol. I feel like now is the time to buy Town Cars since they're quite inexpensive and readily available, but slowly growing in popularity among younger people. Unfortunately it was the type of car people would eventually neglect so a lot of them aren't in the greatest condition. Although there's still tons of low mileage time capsules out there owned by elderly people, which is where I bought both of mine.

Very well said, you’re absolutely right that these cars were likely neglected and most will be rough, same was/is true for the final generation Crown Victoria, any of the ex-livery vehicles were beaten hard and sold cheap, so people bought them to be disposable. There are plenty of KZbin channels who feel that's enough, but I don't like that approach. Any time I've used images in my videos that weren't mine I've found ones that are in the Public Domain, or someone who's specifically setup their copywrite to include a Creative Commons license for commercial work. It's much easier that way, and I know with 100% certainty that I can't be in trouble. Ideally I'd like to have my own footage/images, which is why I'm always on the hunt for classic cars like this to film!

Hey man I love the videos that you make but I feel like you would have more opportunities if you moved here to the Toronto area for your videos...you can review a broad range of cars, tons of panther platform cars on the used market here, so many dealerships are now starting to sell older cars as well, tons of crazy modified cars as well if that’s what you also want to review, and with the amount of competition between dealerships someone like you would be a huge asset to them

I certainly had more success back in Niagara, however the cost of living and overall quality of life is what ultimately made me decide to move provinces. I was on a bit of a roll too back in the weeks leading up to my move, we featured some pretty awesome Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles.

I'd love a Cartier, there are some seriously nice ones that have come up for sale in the US over the months/years. I was so glad to find this review! I'm looking at a '94 Signature with the "nautical" package... full navy cabrio, white leather interior with navy stictching and white paint. I had an '88 TC Signature (flying brick) and loved it. One question. Does the wheel telescope as well as tilt? I'm a big guy, and my '79 New Yorker I had to move the seat, the whole assembly, back 4 inches to be comfortable to drive. Thanx for a GREAT review!

CrimsonStang is correct, the wheel on this old tilts like the previous generation. I believe it was common for the time, few vehicles would have had full tilt & telescope outside cars like the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S-Class.

Funny no one is mentioning the horrible noise these things make shifting into 4th gear overdrive. & the broken air conditioning buttons(even yours has) that ford charged $300 for parts alone to fix. The transmission repair was a bottle of goop that ford offered as a fix, that would leave owners with the problem again 20,000 miles later . Considering the price point for this car not good ..There is an aftermarket re valve kit that supposedly helps if you haven't caused permanent damage by driving it to far like this . I believe it was finally quietly redesigned in 1995 ..The 95 models have a plastic intake manifold which cracks & breaks (usually just outside warranty)...Oh well ...Air bag suspension has a finite life , springs do not , & will never leave the car sitting on the ground like a dead chicken . Yup I've got the 94 town car signature series, with low miles , throw away the air bag suspension, & change the 13.7 liters of trans fluid to full synthetic., live with the still operating air, with the broken buttons, & you've got a pretty good car.

I'll admit this model was a bit rougher than I would have liked, it's hard to find any of these in my area let alone a solid model. It's funny how my 1983 LTD Crown Victoria had a lot of the same problems this Town Car had/has.

Excellent video, thanks for making and posting this! Does anyone know if this 2nd gen is softer/floatier than the later 3rd gen models, or have they kept the ride about the same? How about the steering, did it become “quicker” ratio for the 3rd gen or still about the same? Thanks! I had an ‘86 many years ago and miss the softness, though I’d prefer going for a 2nd or 3rd gen this time around but am on the fence between the two.

These are certainly questions I'd love to be able to answer. Ford didn't change much with the Panther platform over it's 30+ year run, one of the reasons why Ford had to kill the Crown Victoria out of legality as that chassis didn't have stability control. I'd imagine the suspension and steering were ultimately the same feeling over all generations, as driving this still felt a lot like my 83 LTD Crown Victoria. The Town Car is a vehicle we'd love to spend more time with, perhaps we'll have the chance to find some in 2024 and do a new video on them.

@@PRNTestDrive thanks for your reply! I did some digging on the rockauto website and saw that while the steering gearbox is the same from 1980 to 2002 and are said to have 3 1/2 turns lock to lock, the 2003-2011 models got a newer, rack and pinion type steering with 3 turns lock to lock. Probably not too different in feel, but enough to make me go for the earlier years. Cheers!

Only you can ultimately make that decision, but I think every car deserves to be saved. Awesome video PRN. 3 weeks ago I bought a '94 Town Car with 71K miles for $5K. It has the original manual in mint condition in the glove box. The people who had car drove to NC often from Orlando so mostly highway miles. The white wall tires on it are 10 years old , so I guess I have to get some preowned black tires until I can find some fresh whitewalls. NGL you got me shook when you mentioned transmission troubles. I got rid of a nightmare Taurus SE wagon Ive had since 2006. Put two transmissions in it and currently the trans has no 4th year. I dont want those troubles in life again lol You mentioned it was a simple fix, mind telling me about it please? So that mega play in the steering wheel is normal? I took 2 separate mobile mechanics with me to inspect car then to a transmission shop that had a OBD1 scanner and no codes popped. Besides drinking gas lol I put a new differential gasket on and I plan on oil change and brakes soon. Brakes feel weird not like Taurus. Pads are around 50% but feels like pedal goes down far before connecting. I drive slow in right lane out of fear of rear ending a car who brakes suddenly. So hopefully new pads will kill that fear for me. I want to skert!! when I brake lol. But yea, mint condition car otherwise. Hope to hear from you.

Hey there, congrats on the purchase! I don't have any specifics on the transmission unfortunately, any time we do these classic videos I'll research common problems and repair issues people have by searching various forums and online communities, so that information would have come from that research, but it's not something we keep after wrapping up on the video. Hope you get to enjoy the car for a long while! We've had a lot of interest in this car recently which is great.
