I wouldn’t side chain your 808 with your kicks. Your beats will slap way harder, if you just EQ your kick and 808 around each other. Ask any famous Rap/HipHop producer, they don’t sidechain. UNLESS YOUR MAKING ELECTRONIC MUSIC. House, Trap, etc. I just wouldn’t do it. But the rest of this tutorial is pretty on point. Those super high end 808 with velocity (volume) control are kind ugly and I wouldn’t put them in my music... at least not a lot 😂 but it’s a cool skill to know. Good luck with your music man! You can check my beats out at:

@drewjones58995 жыл бұрын
I’m just saying you really shouldn’t have to in hip hop/rap, you can get the same effect with EQ, if not a better effect. If you want bass to knock that is. If you were making a more jazzy piece or funky piece you might want them not to hit at the same time, so ducking/side-chaining might be the way to go.

Well you forgot one important thing: Tune your 808 to the correct note (since samples dont necessarily play on C). For that open it in Edison, detect pitch region and then correct the note of the 808 in it's settings. Another thing: choose mode to stretch and turn off the time delay knob all the way down. Otherwise the "resample" mode may sound muddy if you play other notes. As for mixer plugins: - EQ2 and cut the very inaudible low end. This will allow for more energy. - Fast Dist 2 is great for distortion. - EQ2 with Kick Preset may increase punchiness. - Finally add a soft clipper

Damn, I'm kinda new to producing hip-hop/rap beats, tbh, never even knew the use of an 808 in any track, lol.. But right now I was trying to make one, and didn't had any clue how to use an 808.. And damn, you just talked through all the important points an a bang 13 mins as if you were a god.. I thought I'd know nothing about it for like a month.. Helped a lot, man.. Cheers..

So that helped. I learned something. I just bought FL Studio Signature and I am not doing well with recording on the fly. One of the things I play is classical guitar and fully formed pieces come to me like a rainfall and I find it easier to open audacity and hit record, which was free, than fl studio. But my internal microphones suck so I have to use the external mic and audio interface which is fine but....by the time I open fl studio and open stuff, choose a mixer channel, open Edison......the piece is gone. The universe smiles on me a few times, I wanna catch them. CAN YOU PLEASE DO A RECORDING ON THE FLY QUICKLY. I am not the only one who needs it, for sure! Thank you.

Maybe, before you sit down to play, you have all that set up already. That way when the music starts flowing all you have to do is press record.
