Lightning staff is amazing because it buffs your direct demage by 12%

​@@ThePudin124Daggers are slightly ahead on parse but in actual play you can't always, or want to be in range to keep up light attacks on daggers. That's a massive DPS loss. I'll stick with Destro.

28:55 Because I want to be a dedicated and themed spell caster without aid. Dragonknight uses whip in almost melee range. Templar is more of a priest than a wizard. Nightblade... that's just a mutated rogue. Warden calls animals to do damage. Necromancer calls deadboys and throws skulls. Arcanist borrows Mora's power. Thematically Sorcerer is the only legit spellcaster that has his own power, others just borrow it or use mediators to do damage. Arcanists need Black Book. Templars gain their power as Aedra followers and just vibe more as priests. Wardens and Necromancers need to call aid (warden is the worst to be honest, shalk stuff is just... lame). Nighblades as spell caster sound like bad meme. Dragonknights have to stay in close range to utilize whip, so I count them more as melee, than ranged spell casters.

Just wanted to add, for tank, bound aegis is indeed not used actively, it is however used during tough phases, such as the light weaver in vLC. Hitting 90% block mitigation is key. Sorcs have it easy there because they cast aegis at the 5 second mark when the damage starts getting heavy, and they use hardened ward as the additional buffer/heal

Absolutely. It's a DPS video, but even so my exact words: "even Sorc Tanks don't use it actively THAT often, unless they're facing some crazy incoming damage for a few seconds". I was thinking specifically of Xalvakka HM. Only place I've ever (deliberately) cast it. But anywhere it helps, go for it.

The answer to your question on why people dont want to play with pets as a Sorc. Is that would make them Summoners. Sorcerers normally are Mages, while Summoners and Necromancers are the Pet classes. You can even count Druids as Pet classes too since they normally use Animals to fight. But Sorcs/Wizards/Black Mages are usually big Damage characters without worrying about managing a Pet

On Stam sorc, dropping rapid strikes for knife (bleed or poison or multi target) feels pretty good regarding cleave. Almost like playing plar minus the beam. Worth noting for console players who can’t do swaps between pulls

Spot on. When I want more cleave than rapid strikes, I use travelling knife with multi target (so it stays as phys), 8% martial damage buff, and major proph (so can still use Stam or tripods and benefit from my own minor proph). Adjust scripts as you like for group comp etc..

@@cluckkent1382 yep that’s exactly what I have. You can also drop trap and run the bleed morph + velothi, but the cleave is not as good. Venomous morph might be higher DPS either way, I haven’t tested. Also note that scribed skills do not get reported correctly in esologs. Most knife skills just show up as shattering knife.

@@TheDawnStar on console we don't have addons, so we cannot instantly swap entire gear sets and skills between (AOE) trash pulls and single target ones. Waiting for everyone to change builds (which happens instantly on PC) between pulls hurts score too much to be viable outside of encounters that have long cut scenes / dialog between pulls ~like arenas.

I heard that the morph of streak that lead behind a ball count as a pet for skills and gear sets that look for them to provide a bonus or effect. I do not play on saucer much but if that's true that's cool to know.

Is it worth to drop tormentor for aoe fights as a stam sorc - so you can run Frags, Armaments, prey, familiar and the aoe knife with sav/prophecy, BB stampede, trap, carve, hurricane familiar?

Unfortunately all those people are right! The clearest answer I can give is that no two-set combo is gonna cut it. There are loads of proc sets which are super strong, but their performance depends on the fight, your playstyle, the abilities you use etc. So I guess if you absolutely insist on having only two sets, avoid proc sets and go for stat sets which work anywhere. For example, Order's Wrath and Briarheart (for a bit of free self-healing). Hope that helps.

You talking about one-bar setups? If so, yeah I know they're crazy popular, but unless someone is physically unable to push 2 buttons a second, Oakensorc is a dead end for the vast majority of players so I try to avoid recommending it as a default.

No matter how much I try to love sorc - I just don't. When I started playing as templar/arcanist/warden - they've just clicked in my head almost immediately, the combat felt natural and well represented, I felt in control of the situation. But with sorc/dk/nb it's the opposite - "I have no idea what I'm doing here". I guess probably one of the main problems here is the visual/sound representation of class-skills. For sorc it's only the Lightning Form and Lightning Splash which give me some good visual representation. While the rest of the skills are somewhat abstract, and I just have to memorise when to cast them in my rotation and then believe that they are there even though I don't see or hear them (especially when I'm in dungeons/trials)

Is Sorc really as dependent on pets for damage now? There are so many sets that buff non-pet sorc you'd think they would have made up the gap.

Yes, pets are still quite far ahead. I can't speak for the devs, but they're probably reluctant to reward players for trying to skip class skills/passives and sidestep the intended gameplay loop. It's pretty much the opposite of how games usually work, so giving damage parity to non-pet Sorcs might be tricky from a design standpoint, maybe even unacceptable. Like I said I dunno if that's their thinking, but it would explain things.

No, Vampirism is generally not very useful for PvE damage. For Tanking and certain specific PvP builds it can work really well. And obviously there are lots of people who play Vampire just for RP reasons.

Yeah, but keep in mind these are just DEFAULT setups - like a baseline. There are LOADS more sets we use for different types of encounter. I tried to get this across in the video but I understand when people see a single setup on screen it’s easy to get the impression that it’s the ONLY setup. Thats far from the truth, and I’ll try to make it clearer in the upcoming rotation vids.
