Barrel overheating would just make the MG a hassle, You already (unlike this odd case where nobody shot him) get shot IMMEDIATELY after at most 6 seconds of constant firing due to the tracers being a big "hey im right over here" sign, reload also takes ages and you lose any close quarter fight (unless you hear the enemy and camp a corner) due to you needing some prep time before hip firing (inaccurately). Add barrel overheating and its 10% shooting 90% reloading and removing/addig a new barrel. Theres a fine line between realism and fun that is pretty easy to cross, if it was a "100% realistic" game youd need a support gunner to play MG as they in most cases had to have one, also MG42 has 200 rounds with the magazine (it was way less irl with that magazine) due to its Rate of Fire being so high they had to add more so it was more cappable of suppressive fire, If they wanted to add barrel overheat theyd have to first fix the janky bipod that barely works unless its a 90° flat wall or flat ground

Though one might argue the PPSh is ridiculous in trench warfare (giving the germans a PPSh loadout at Stalingrad wouldn't be criminal)

I had the MG on Utah Beach and also got a 26 kill streak all while narrowly avoiding a few close calls. Ended up overrun in a house and finally died by multiple grenades. Got the Audie Murphy achievement, proud of that.

Machine gunner tips from an actual machine gunner- 2-3 round bursts, have a position with good concealments, do not change positions if you don’t see anyone. They will come, a machine gun is primarily used for suppression so the infantry squads cab sweep from the left or right, begin changing positions once you have made 5 to 6 Bursts because your presence will be a high priority target. Never hold it down. Long bursts equal quick dome shots from the enemy.

everyone one of you saying you die every 5 seconds i feel you. trust me it still happens. i’ve been playing hell let loose off and on for a while but last month or 2 i got back into it heavily. ur gonna die a lot to bs that’s the game it’s not cod man you gotta get the cod mentality out. i started realizing how i was playing and every time i died i thought to myself what can i do better. trust over time it works every time i get the urge to quit i push through that shit and it works out i live sm longer now and will get 10-13 kills sometimes before i die, its all about the process man you just gotta trust it and use genuine tactics man it really does work out. also dont just join random games server browse that shit and find a good server where there’s active sl and commanders i play glows battleground religiously. always have a commander and sl with mics. anyways man sorry for the fucking book but i jus want y’all to know it gets easier but there’s a fat learning curve you gotta master and im slowly getting there still have more ass games then good ones it’s all part of the process.
