Interesting, I guess the keyboards I recently considered didn't have silver anodization options 🤔 For context, these were: KBDFans Maja V2, Zoom65, all the Keychron Q series (it's space grey, not silver), MMS Class 80. But yeah seeing the QK65 had silver ano, that statement was too specific to my personal experience.

The new Envoy 65% from Mode has a really innovative mounting system. But the Sonnet or 80 are a bit more functional. Mode is not only the most Mac-like, I think they are the Leica of keyboards with their quality and design. I will consider the green and copper build, but very expensive. Mode keycaps have Mac Legends. I got the Tomorrow set on my Envoy. Also, Vial is way better than Via. More Mac-like.

Yeah the Envoy looks incredibly good! I’ll try to get my hands on one, same with the Mode keycaps! I had hoped they were out in time for this video but timelines were off. If not silver, I’d definitely go with Green/Copper or Green/Oak! Thanks for your comment!

The problem with a traditional custom keyboard to be Mac style is that the command key will never be far enough right. It’ll always be 0.5 units too far left, but that makes it really hard to use the key with your thumb without contorting Even bigger issue is the option key is basically impossible to access with your thumb without completely moving your arm I ended up having to go split to remedy this issue, but even then there are very few options that allow for a properly far enough right L cmd, Keebio’s boards are the only prebuilt options I’ve found for this layout (cmd key far enough right w/ a traditional row staggered layout), which is insane considering just how many keyboards there are, and outside of the aluminum case that’s being run in a few months for the Quefrency, all of Keebio’s traditional layout boards come without a case and only have a 3D printed or acrylic case option, which is decidedly not apple’s style The no Bluetooth thing another comment mentioned is an issue too, but really I think not having the same layout is a bigger issue than that. It has to be used with a completely different style of mods from what your average Mac user is used to. Then again… I don’t know if the average Mac user knows what the option key does Love the vid though. Keyboard looks super nice

Yeah you seem to really want your layout your way haha! I think the way I have it set up isn't too far off what my macbook keyboard looks like, but it's indeed not at 1:1 match and requires some adaptation when switching between the 2.

@@minimalistik of course, but I feel like it completely changed the point of having a thumb mod on the OS if you have to move your hand to use it compared to the macOS keyboard where you really don’t, especially if you have smaller hands

Thanks! To each their own I guess, the plastic edge around the R3 doesn't seem as premium to me than the Sonnet, but I haven't tested one IRL so I don't know. The modifiers layout and keycaps overall do look very Mac-like however!

uff for a Mac setup I would not call this "ultimate" if the keyboard doesnt have bluetooth. You could buy a budget keyboard and paint it to get the Mac asthetic

I don't think DIY painting a keyboard would give off the apple aesthetic. I mean, the focus of the video was mostly on how premium the finish is. Bluetooth is only solid when well implemented with good power management, usually that's with brand companies like Logitech, Razer, Apple, etc. It's harder to get great Bluetooth with custom boards so I had to leave this feature out unfortunately.
